It’s that rare hip-hop post on PP, but El-P is back with a new LP Cancer For Cure out on May 22nd via Fat Possum. The lead single is abrasive and bass killing and awesome. Check it:

Boston’s SUPER88 makes lonely echo off the mountain top of my dark bedroom vibes. salad days is the newest effort and overflows with heavily reverbed guitars and distant vocals over some crisp morning drum machine loops.

So I get this email the other day from Jeremy from Brookln aka Jmo. I’ll be straight with you – I almost trashed this one. Sorry sometimes it happens – the onslaught of the email inbox can be a hideous bitch goddess (George Burns was right!). Anyways I gave it a listened and from the first few notes of his new single “Don’t Let It Get Away” I almost turned it off…but I stayed with it and was pleasantly surprised I was nodding and singing along by the end. He made some comparisons in the email, but Lou Reed stood out for me…and I’d throw Squeeze and Mystery Jets in there as well. Catchy yet odd pop rock…that just…works.

Case Point (Ryan Boos aka Nomadic Firs and Adam Stolz) have just released their debut S/T EP via Bad Pop and it’s staking claim to my ears. Where they go on this collaboration is one that doesn’t seem to be tackled that often – jazz, trip-hop, pop, r&b – all blended into something quite unique…as well as soothing. Go listen/purchase the digital on Bad Pop’s bandcamp. Meanwhile…

My Roaring Twenties (Jack Frederick) makes a fairly varied amount of sounds under the self described “bedroom pop” genre. He’s just released a four-tracker on bandcamp and soundcloud entitled Red Carpet Wedding. The title track is a killer.
And here’s a completely different vibe off the release, but equally grabbing:

Heart Of Hearts (Greg Hatem) just posted this warbled beauty on his soundcloud. I’m really starting to love his new direction.

Rapdragons – Angel (mp3)
Baltimore’s Rapdragons have been steadily releasing free tracks every Friday…dubbed Cause It’s Friday. One of their recent drops was “Angel” – a series of intense rhymes about “losing the ones you love and the importance of maintaining your relationships with those closest to you” over a sweet beat originally produced by Clams Casino (used for the ASAP Rocky song “Demons”). Check it:
