songs of 2010

After painstakingly putting together my top 2010 albums list a few weeks ago, I couldn’t help feeling I’d left off some pretty dope music.  In fact I’ve been listening to some of my favorite tracks from this year over the last week and its inspired me to put a post highlighting these tunes and the awesome bands that created them.  Without further ado here’s a list of my favorite songs from 2010 (that didn’t happen to be mentioned already in my favorite albums list):

1. Sonny & The Sunsets – Too Young Too Burn

Yup.  This was my all time favorite jam of the year – especially during the warm months.  I actually played it too much, I think…had to take a break until a few weeks ago.

2. GOBBLE GOBBLE – Lawn Knives

Just the perfect pump up song – I cranked it many many days on my way to work.

3. Foals – Spanish Sahara

Nearly knocked me off my seat the first time I played and still has that effect right now.  Powerful stuff in that song.

4. Rapdragons – She Got Me (Moss Of Aura Remix)

Pretty sure I included the Moss Of Aura remix in last years year end list, but it was officially released this year, so I officially kept on bumping it LOUD.  Favorite lyric ever:  “I love this girl like Han loves Leia.  She’s a princess and I’m a high flying playa.”

5. NazcarNation – Beeswax (unouomedude Remix)

Rounding out my top five is this kind of obscure remix that unouomedude did of NazcarNation.  Not really sure what happened here, but this song just got played over and over and over by me – perfect for night drives.

6. The Arcade Fire – We Used To Wait

I don’t know much about this band, but three albums in – I think they’ll be something special.  This song proves it.

7. Celebration – Open Your Heart

Baltimore’s Celebration has been slowly putting out an album this year piece by piece (I almost put it on the top albums list – but I haven’t heard the whole thing yet).  This piece is my favorite so far.

8. TV Girl – If You Want It (You Got It)

Sample based electronic pop with a gorgeous robust beat.  These San Diego folks know the key to my heart.

9. Javelin – Oh! Centra

A four minute party is what this is.  They had me at Push It.

10. Holy Spirits and Gem Club – Fingertips

Pretty sure this is the most beautiful song I’ve heard this year.

11. Gauntlet Hair – Out, Don’t..

12. Summer Camp – Ghost Train

13. Twin Sister – All Around And Away We Go

14. Guards – Resolution Of One

15. Deerhunter – Helicopter

16. Seeing Suge – Breaking

17. Tennis – Marathon

18. Shark Tank – Red Rain

19. Trophy Wife – Microlite

20. Tobacco – Fresh Hex (Feat. Beck)

21. Sonic Youth – Teenage Riot (Cracks Remix)

22. Teen Daze – Around

23. NewIslands – Out Of Time (Is Tropical Remix)

24. Yellow Ostrich – WHALE

25. HEART OF HEARTS – HEART OF HEARTS

And that about does it.
