You Should Go: The Sour Notes, Moss Of Aura, Fearsome Creatures @ Metro Gallery – Thursday January 7th
6 Jan

This Thursday a stellar (and eclectic) line-up makes its way into the Metro Gallery here in Baltimore. The Sour Notes, a young band from Austin, caught my ear early last year with their echoey pop LP Received In Bitterness. This time around they are touring in support of their brand new album It’s Not Going To Be Pretty which you can stream here.

Also on the bill are Baltimore’s own Moss Of Aura and Fearsome Creatures. Moss Of Aura aka Gerrit Welmers that many may know from the band Future Islands. Moss Of Aura will be a big contrast to The Sour Notes seeing how he plays bassed up space electronic jams. Welmers doesn’t go over the top with his music…he keeps it low key (but not boring) letting the focus fall on the melodies and the air around them. If I were making comparisons I’d put him in the same light as Eliot Lipp (minus the heavy reliance on the analog synth sound).

As the theme seems to be for this line up, Fearsome Creatures are quite a departure from the other two acts. The duo of Allyson Little and Stephan Kaplan play folk music that is GOOD (friggin GOOD dammit). Little’s voice is one of a kind, beautiful, and simply captivating. Don’t take my word for it…take a listen/view of their performance of “Little Girl” on Aural States‘ “An Hour Of Kindness” session:

Watch the rest of the performance here. Fearsome Creatures are currently working on their first release that should see the light of day this spring. They’ll also be doubling in size to a four piece for the release.
If you attend the show and would like to share your thoughts/photos of it with the internets please feel free to email me your review/photos, or send me a message via twitter. Enjoy!
