Suggested Listening: Javelin

Out of the foggy Providence, Rhode Island metropolis emerges the duo of cousins Tom Van Buskirk and George Langford aka Javelin.  Their self titled EP out via Thrill Jockey is high fiving me upside the head right now.  Javelin’s collage of funk, video game synth, r&b, hip hop breaks, and new wave make me smile just as large as when I first popped on RJD2′s Deadringer.  Seriously.  Oh and that’s before I cranked the fab disco roller skating ride in the park groove of “Lindsay Brohan”.

I’ve yet to see these dudes live but apparently:

“In performance, Javelin use colorfully painted boomboxes that form large speaker totems (“boombaatas”) which can hang from the ceiling or stack up on the floor like pyramids. The signal from the show is broadcast via FM transmitter, thereby fostering audience participation (B.Y.O.Boombox) or fueling battery-powered, mobile parties.”

That’s friggin’ dope!  And guess what?  Check them out this Sunday here in Baltimore at Jesus Camp (37th and Falls) with Future Islands, DJ Mark Brown, and 400 Cloaks.  More info on that over at Wham City.

Javelin should have a follow up 12″ out early next year via Thrill Jockey and eventually a full length album out via Luaka Bop.
