Quick Hits: Violetness

Violetness aka Vanessa Upson, straight outta Chicago, has absolutely made my ears happy with the few tracks she just dropped in my inbox. She reminds me of The Creatures (powerful/soulful female vocals combined with tribal rhythms though much more minimal) and in turn reminds me of My Gold Mask (who also remind me of The Creatures). There’s some Bjork like qualities to her music as well. She’s working on an EP/Album slated for next year. Here’s to hoping it’s full of tracks like these:

Love Violetness and it’s funny you say she reminds you of My Gold Mask (the band I play guitar in) because we are very happy to have her opening our record release on Jan 9th at Hideout here in Chicago. (yeah that’s a plug but figured it was relevant)
In any case thank you for shining a light on more Chicago acts. These are great tracks that everyone should hear!
