Yesterday I was operating on very little sleep.  So little that I was having trouble keeping my eyes open on my way to work (yikes!).  My only hope was for the music to keep me awake.  In walks Small Sur on my stereo and their Bare Black EP.  If you listen to this EP you might think I’m heading for disaster.  After all Bare Black is made up of some slow and quiet tracks that could easily put me to sleep.  Not that day though.  Small Sur’s new EP (out on Aural Slate July 12th) did the exact opposite – it’s powerful folkish sound energized me.  The core of each track is beautifully written and performed while the nuances of horns and percussion that seep into each track are thoroughly well executed and breathtaking.  Here’s the first track:

mp3: Small Sur – Weeds

There’s an EP release show on July 9th at the Windup Space featuring Lo Moda, Moss Of Aura, and Ghost Life.
