Music Review: Horse Feathers “House With No Home”
15 Jan

An album I completely overlooked last year was Horse Feathers‘ House With No Home out via Kill Rock Stars. Portland, Oregon’s Horse Feathers are comprised of Justin Ringle, Peter Broderick, and Heather Broderick, but the soul of the songs is centered around Ringle’s compositions. House With No Home isn’t dressed up and glamorous like many folk pop tries to do these days. Rather it’s honest and direct folk music that hits me right between my ears and heart. If you don’t mind the softer side of folk then you might warm up to Ringle and his Horse Feathers.

this album is tremendous. it carries the torch of early iron and wine, stripped-down folk though with lusher instrumentation and more complex, classical influence in the arrangements. closest recent analogue that i know of: bowerbirds, another quietly soul-expanding indie-folk dynamo.
