We loved these guys the last time they came through the area, so if you see a show close to your hometown you might want to check them out. It also does not hurt that they’re playing with another great band, Margot and the Nuclear So & Sos. Check the dates after the jump.

A while back I mused that Wild Sweet Orange’s new album, We Have Cause To Be Uneasy, had the feel of a band that could be awesome as a live act. Well, Monday night at Fletcher’s proved that I may have psychic powers. Seriously. I can see the future. WSO are a ridiculously good live band. And I don’t really care if you are a good album band with a “meh” live show. Do that and you might wind up dead to me. But WSO don’t need to worry at all.
Wild Sweet Orange played as part of 98 rock’s Noise in the Basement series, and pretty much made my week. Being a fairly new act, and especially one on a nationwide tour, the crowd response is always a crap shoot, but the Baltimore crew clearly was well versed and enthusiastic, singing along and dancing at times. The band was obviously a little surprised by the supportive audience. Between songs at one point, leader singer Preston Lovinggood did the whole, “We’re from Birmingham, Alabama” thing (roll tide), which was met with loud clapping and lots of yells, and then added, “And you know what our name is, right?” It was a pretty neat moment. Its really hard for a young band to go from city to city and receive lukewarm responses from some audiences. In a weird dichotomy, it was cool to see the band really appreciate the audience.

Tonight there are two stand out Philly shows if you’re headed up north. First is at the Khyber where you can witness a great band in the making perform in Wild Sweet Orange. Also on the bill is What Made Milwaukee Famous. The second show is at The Trocadero and features the Fratellis, The Airborne Toxic Event, and Electric Touch. Enjoy!

I really appreciate a band that can do more than one sound. No, I don’t mean the “hey, we have a couple of slow songs” or the “lookout, we found a key-tar at a thrift store.” I mean really have a bunch of style. And Wild Sweet Orange, hailing from Birmingham, AL, home of Vulcan, falls squarely into that category. The album, We Have Cause To Be Uneasy, has moments that could be on a mix tape with David Grey, others that seem like Jimmy Eat World on steroids, and still others that Sea Wolf would think sounded old school. However varied the tracks are, it still has congruency as an album, and has that elusive “complete album” character to it. The album drops on July 29th.
I also have a hunch that these guys have a fierce live show. I haven’t seen them live yet, but listen to Tilt and tell me you don’t hear some crazy jam session at the end. Any readers out there who’ve had the pleasure, please let me know if I’m crazy. Well, at least about this. Current tour dates are after the jump.
