New Vampire Weekend – Cousins [mp3] and video

vampire weekend cousins

The music world received it’s second dose of Vampire Weekend’s new album Contra (out Jan. 11th) the other day with the new track/video for “Cousins”.  It’s a fast paced energetic FUN song as is the video.  I like it.  Check it:

New Vampire Weekend: Horchata [mp3]

vampire weekend contra

So yesterday morning I discovered like many on the internets that Vampire Weekend was having some sort of countdown on their website.  It was going to wrap up in the mid afternoon.  So noon time comes and I’m pumped.  1 pm hits the clock and I get antsy about it.  Then a new new job comes across my desk and my day gets swept away with an overload of work.   Later in the evening when things settled down I attached my brain back to the feed and discovered…I missed it.  Vampire Weekend debuted the first song off of their upcoming album Contra entitled “Horchata“.  I’ve had time to listen to it last night and this morning and I’m pleased.  It’s not “ground breaking”.  It’s not anything spectacular really.  It’s just Vampire Weekend doing their thing…with some heavenly production to boot.  Check it:

Is it just me or does VW seem to have a lot of one word song names.  Probably just me.  Contra comes out on January 11 (UK) 12 (US).

New Vampire Weekend Performed On Fallon

I’m trying to get through all the things I’ve managed to miss over the last few weeks and one of them happens to be Vampire Weekend’s performance on Jimmy Fallon.  They performed their new song “White Sky” that might possibly be on a new album in the fall.  What can I say?  The song sounds like VW – strings, afro-beat – you know the deal.  It didn’t blow me away (perhaps because I had just watched Public Enemy perform on Fallon as well and that was killer!) but it was….nice.  Yeah.  I can’t show the vid because it has disappeared from the internet, but here’s a high quality mp3 of it:

Friday (I’m A Remix) – Miike Snow, Air France, Shazam, & Gigamesh

It’s almost March and you know what that means…the madness…but until then I’ve been a enjoying a slew of good college basketball games, a slew of good music (so many grand albums are coming into Pasta Primavera, I can’t keep up – i guess that’s a good problem to have), and a slew of good pastries left over from a recent party (Fenwick Bakery is the best!!).  Isn’t that all one needs in life – music, sports, and sweets?  Well love and family are important too…

Video – Vampire Weekend Play “The Kids Don’t Stand A Chance” on Conan

In case you missed it the other night everybody’s favorite indie afrobeat guys, Vampire Weekend, performed on Conan and I must say it was pretty good despite all the scarf wearing indoors.  Conan enjoyed it as well…

The Run Down – Tuesday December 2, 2008

Unfortunately Noah and the Whale have cancelled their show at the Black Cat tonight, but luckily there are some other quality shows to choose from.  Here in Baltimore don’t miss Method Man and Redman at Sonar.  It’s day two of the sold out shows of Vampire Weekend at the 9:30 Club in DC with The Teenagers.  So if you’re down about missing out on that big show, then perhaps a smaller show featuring Snowden, Twin Tigers, and Illinois at DC9 will right your ship.

The Run Down – Monday December 1, 2008

Tonight in DC is the first of two sold out shows of Vampire Weekend at the 9:30 Club in DC with The Teenagers (they sold out a long time ago).  Have a good time if you’re going!  If you can’t make it in to that one, perhaps the Black Cat can soothe your musical needs with Teedo, Loose Lips, and Mittenfields.  If you are tooling around Philly tonight don’t forget that Sebastien Grainger and the Mountains is playing Johnny Brenda’s with Josh Reichman and Rad Racket.  Also in Philly is Little Dragon with Devin Greenwood at the M Room.

New Gorillaz Album, New Deerhoof Video, New Vampire Weekend and The Killers Song! New!

Recently in an interview with CBC, Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett of Gorillaz talked about just beginning to put together the next Gorillaz album. You could tell they wanted to spill out a little more about it, but the label has put the clamps on anything to be said about it. Still pretty exciting though if you’re a Gorillaz fan (like me).

In other news Deerhoof has just put out a video for the track Fresh Born off their upsoming album Offend Maggie. This song is classic Deerhoof craziness with an awesome beat, much dancing, and one pissed off gorilla. Check it out:

Finally some new tracks from Vampire Weekend and The Killers have been circulating through the blogsphere. Vampire Weekend’s Ottoman picks up right where they left off with their massively popular debut – a light, fun pop song with gorgeous string accents. The Killers new track, Human, the first single off their much anticipated third album Day & Age (due out in November) is gaining a lot of buzz for its apparent return to Hot Fuss form. After listening to the track I’m not completely sure of that. It’s okay…but not great…hopefully they pull it out with the rest of the album. What do you think?
