By now all should be keen on The xx (if not – where you been?), and most, including me, are all in agreement that they’re pretty rad. So when they release a new video, like they just did for the track “VCR”, it gives me a reason to revisit their stellar LP from last year. It’s a good day now…
Arizona’s Death To The Throne have taken the soft and timid “Shelter” off the The xx’s debut album and revamped it for the club for sure. The intro to this remix makes it so much better…sparse with Knife-like synths pulsing in the background…no drums…just the anticipation of them…then it all kicks in and the lights glow bright. Sweet.
I’ve gotta hand it to The xx…they’re pretty good at being awesome. They’ve produced one of the more memorable debuts albums this year and are also lighting up the nets with some solid remixes. One of those remixes, a redux of Florence + the Machines “You’ve Got The Love”, is receiving a whole lotta attention, and it’s definitely warranted. The xx make this song their own infusing their own vocals into it and cutting up/down the original to their own simplistic/wonderful style. Check it:
I’m not sure is I’ve posted about my admiration of London’s The xx before (I think I did…but my memory these days…don’t get me started), but in case I didn’t let me say…I dig ‘em. As you can witness here I’m obviously not the first person to either. Recently though I’ve been eating up the remixes that The xx or Jamie of The xx has been pumping out. The two that come to mind are fellow Londoners Jack Penate and Eliza Doolittle. Check it:
Next month Magic Wands will release their EP Magic Love and Dreams which I previously proclaimed my love for. Some remixes have been dropping into my inbox to help promote it. God thing is these remixes are pretty grand. Here’s two sweet remixes of the opening track “Warrior” as as another solid redux of the lead single “Black Magic” by L’amour La Morgue.
