Gone are the African rhythms and general dry heat grooves of The Very Best’s “Warm Heart Of Africa” in Brooklyn artist Alan Wilkis‘ recent remix. Instead Wilkis infuses his electro funk and it WORKS baby. It’s definitely an interesting bridging of genres/sounds. Who’s the winner? We are.
Congrats Brian! You’re the winner! Keep an eye out for an email from us!
The lead single and title track “Warm Heart Of Africa” from the upcoming The Very Best album has just been released as a limited edition vinyl 7″. It also features a B side of “Yalira” an unreleased track by the duo of Radioclit and Esau Mwamwaya. It’s being put out by Green Owl and they’ve given us a copy to give away to one of our lucky readers. This thing is only getting pressed into 500 Copies so jump on this thing fast (I’ll choose a winner by Sunday). The Very Best’s Warm Heart Of Africa album/first single is on the tip of everyone’s ear being hyped all over – and with good cause. The Esau Mwamwaya and DJ Radioclit duo produced a supreme free mixtape last year and this debut album looks to follow suit. Recently Architecture In Helsinki and Metronomy each took their turn at remixing the title track and the end results are two tracks on different sides of the spectrum. Personally the bedroom pop feel of AIH’s version appeals to me. I don’t hear too many remixes sounding this charming and quaint. It’s a bit refreshing if I do say so myself.
Last years The Very Best mixtape was just that, the very best. The combo of Esau Mwamwaya and Radioclit (aka The Very Best) was irresistible and had me on my toes for some sort of album in the future. Well the wait is over because here comes Warm Heart Of Africa just in time for the summer. The newly released track for the album is the title track and features Ezra Koenig from Vampire Weekend. I’m certainly not shocked by the guest appearance of Koenig given that The Very Best reworked VW’s song on their mixtape and the two group’s styles have a common denominator. Needless to say the song crushes!
The Very Best aka Esau Mwamwaya and Radioclit have put out their first video for the first single off of the ever popular mixtape they put out last year. The video is for the track “Kamphopo” (that features music from Architecture In Helsinki) and is full of footage from Easau Mwamwaya’s first return to his home of Lelongwe, Malawi in 9 years. Enjoy!
East African/London Secondhand Furniture Store Owner Esau Mwamwaya has teamed up with London dj Radioclit to bring you The Very Best – a combination of magnificent African singing/rhythms and modern club sounds. Gorilla Vs. Bear was the first to turn me on to them and they’ve recently put up The Very Bests first free mixtape for download. Much of the album features the music from popular musicians we all love like Vampire Weekend, M.I.A., and Architecture In Helsinki. Here’s two of my favorites right now:
