I feel bad. Somehow I left The Horrors‘ Primary Colours off my best of 2009 list. It was that good, and I feel terrible for the omission. Ah well… as my tribute to them I’ve decided to dedicate this post to them and the fine job they’re doing with these latest remixes. Beautiful hazy emotional landscapes – that’s what The Horrors create – in their own music and with their remixes. Check them:
So my morning routine was rather boring until this nice little email from The Hood Internet popped up letting me know that their 4th mixtape installment was out and ready for a free download. It’s loaded with stunning mash-ups, some featured on our site previously, and some we quite frankly might have missed somewhere down the line. A few stood out immediately to me and I couldn’t wait to press play. Here’s the ones that really got me going:
mp3: The Hood Internet – AZ (featuring Ghostface) vs. The Golden Filter – Solid Gold From New York
mp3: The Hood Internet – Modest Mouse vs. Kanye West – Floating Paranoia
mp3: The Hood Internet – Michael Jackson vs. Ratatat – Billy “Wildcat” Jean
I’m starting to think that The Hood Internet can do wrong. Actually I’m going on record write now and saying that’s a fact. The Hood Internet can do NO WRONG. My Gold Mask, one of my favorite new bands, get the remix treatment from THI with their song “Bitches”. THI splices the song up with some Roxy Music and boy does it work perfectly!
Is there anything The Hood Internet can’t do? I’m pretty sure there isn’t. Their latest mash fest involves Grizzly Bear’s “Two Weeks” and a classic Dead Prez track. The result is something I’ll be listeing to for a long time. The tracks blend perfectly. Who knew Grizzly Bear would flow so nicely with hip hop? Apparently The Hood Internet did.

As usual you can find tons more great tracks like this one over at their site.
Black Friday is here, but I’m not one to wake up a the crack of dawn to fight through a crowd of belligerent shoppers for that half priced toaster or $10 DVD player. Nope…I’m taking it easy cheesy today and heading over to my family’s day late Thanksgiving dinner. Speaking of good eatin’, feast on these…ummm….dang…this is what happens when you plan ahead and try to write a post for a day that you would not be able to post on…then you get the days mixed up because of lack of sleep…then the post goes up on the wrong day…and it doesn’t seem to make any sense at all…and you end up looking a bit foolish…well at least it’s Friday…right?
mp3: Chromeo – Needy Girl (Lifelike Remix)
mp3: Sebastien Tellier – L’amour et la violence (Boys Noize Remix)
mp3: Beanie Sigel/Ol’ Dirty Bastard – When You Hear That (Ratatat Remix)
mp3: The Hood Internet – Fleetwood Mac vs. Daft Punk – You Make Lovin’ Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger
A few weeks back we posted on the fabulous mixtape The Hood Internet put together for Tobacco and Aesop Rock mash-ups, but little did we know that they were in the midst of producing The Mix Tape Volume Three. This thing is mega and might be their best yet. Chromeo vs. Rihanna? MF Doom vs. Ladytron? Hell yes! Here’s my favorites so far (but the whole thing is worth the download):
mp3: The Hood Internet – MF DOOM vs. Ladytron – My Favorite Ladytrons
mp3: The Hood Internet – Estelle (feat. Kanye West) vs. The Ting Tings – Sut Up, American Boy
Everybody’s favorite psychedelic soundsmith is back again with a new video from his new album Fucked Up Friends. It’s for the track Street Trash and as expected it’s a little bizarre and quite possibly not safe for work. Take a look if you can:
mp3: Tobacco – Street Trash
In other Tobacco news the folks over at The Hood Internet have put out a new little 7 track wonder for free download called The Hood Internet vs Tobacco & Aesop Rock. You can get it here. One of my faves is the Hairy Candy rework featuring Mr. Lif.
Wait there’s more…Tobacco has also put together an awesome podcast for XLR8R entitled Songs to Get Killed in the Woods To. It features an awesome Tobacco remix of Alias w/Why?’s Well Water Black. You can grab this little gem here.
All of the music featured on this site is for sampling purposes only. If you are an artist or label and want your music removed, please just email us at 'info (at) pastaprima.net' and we will happily take it down.
