What an audio treat for the ears! I was just strolling along the interwebs and happened across the swell Austin blog Covert Curiosity and what do they have? Two new tracks from the forthcoming Flaming Lips double LP Embryonic. Apparently this album is one of their most adventurous (which is saying a lot) and these two tracks definitely support that theory. These songs also flat out kick ass and have totally made my week that much better. Now we just have to wait until the end of September for the rest. Enjoy!

In DC tonight you might not want to miss the one and only KRS-One at the Black Cat with Kokayi. He never puts on a bad show. If you are missing it, maybe you’re heading out to the Rock and Roll Hotel to catch Black Moth Super Rainbow, Subtle, Efterklang, and Slaraffenland. Or maybe, just maybe, you’re lucky enough to get up to Philly and witness the Jam On The River at Penn’s Landing which features The Flaming Lips, RJD2, and Josh Ritter.

Are you ever listening to a song and say,”Hey that really sounds like this other song. I wonder if they realized this when it was being written.”
That happened to me yesterday. There I was driving and Cat Stevens’ “Father and Son” came on. It struck me then that his singing melody sounded eeriely similar to The Flaming Lips’ “Fight Test” song. Later I did a ‘lil Google search and come to find out The Flaming Lips got sued over it. Apparently Wayne realized the similarity when he was writing it, but didn’t think to do anything about it. That was a bad idea for him. If he had just said something to the record company it could have been taken care of nice and legally. Oh well, a coupla tours should pay that fine off.
