Fascinated with The Faint

I’ve been a fan of The Faint for quite some time now.  So when their new album, Fascination, came out, I was anxious to find what was inside.  Fascination is filled with the same raw lyrics/vocals of Todd Fink and electro hooks that has gained them much notice in the music world.  What makes Fascination a superb listen is the effort they’ve seem to have made to change directions a bit — a lift of some of the dense heavy electronic fog that usually thickly encompasses their music.  Don’t get me wrong – it’s The Faint.  It wouldn’t be The Faint without some crazy techno-infused head nodding, but they definitely held back some of their patented compu-flexing sound, and it seems to give Fascination an air of freshness.  The Faint are also on tour and really put on a wicked live show.  Check the dates after the jump.

Tonight in DC the Red and the Black has a good show with PocketKnife, Fox Japan, and Peter Mayberduk.  Also in DC the Black Cat has Bodies Of Water and Port O’ Brien while Wolftrap has the legendary Beach Boys.  Finally in Philly, the Trocadero has The Faint with Shy Child and Jaguar Love opening for them.

Tonight in Baltimore don’t miss the legends of hip hop a Pier 6 with Slick Rick, Big Daddy Kane, Doug E. Fresh, MC Lyte, and Whodini.  If you’re in DC you might want to check Titus Andronicus, Letzkus Lanou, The Rosewood Thieves, and Impossible Hair who play the Red and the Black or The Faint, Shy Child, and Jaguar Love who play the 9:30 club.  Also in DC are Eddie Vedder and Liam Finn who are playing the Warner Theater.  Down in Virginia there’s a great show at Iota with Exit Clov, You Can Be A Wesley, and The Toothaches.  Also in VA, Fredericksburg All Ages presents Tereu Tereu, Boy Genius, The Riffs, and The Black & Whites at the 3rd Floor.  Finally in Philly, Johnny Brenda’s has Bodies Of Water, Papertrigger, and Port O’Brien while the M Room has The Bye Byes, Frisky Or Trusty, and Busses.
