The Antlers and their stunning album Hospice has garnered praise from just about everyone (including me) for creating a heartfelt and honest album. As you can imagine I was nervous when retro disco house DJs Buffetlibre dropped their official remix of the amazing track “Two”. Usually this match up would fail nine times out of ten, but the crew of Buffetlibre nail it (IMO). Check it:
If you don’t own a copy of The Antlers‘ Hospice, you need to drop everything and go grab yourself a copy. It’s one of this year’s best for sure. With the success of an album like this, fan made videos usual pop up all over Youtube. workprods puts together a perfect slideshow of images set to the song “Kettering”. Check it:
It’s been a while since we first reviewed The Antlers and their stunning new album Hospice (out now via Frenchkiss). They’ve accumulated much well deserved acclaim for it and now have just premiered a new video for the track “Two” on Pitchfork TV. Take a look/listen:

I want some paper bubbles and an instrument that makes them as well…
Another night comes and Baltimore is swelling with good shows. Sonar has a dynamite one with local favorites Beach House, Vetiver, Sian Alice Group, and Steve Strohmeier. The Metro Gallery has good one with Brazil’s Nancy while Joe Squared has Person Parcel and FFHH. Down in DC don’t miss out on The Antlers and Nunchucks at the Black Cat. If you do hopefully you’ve made it to the Rock and Roll Hotel to see All The Saints, These Arms Are Snakes, and Clouds. Finally in DC comes hip hop/poet/gap commercial rapper Common to the 9:30 Club. Enjoy!
Tonight there’s a whole slew of good shows in Baltimore. First there’s the Metro Gallery who has The Antlers and The Owls Go. I was a big fan of The Antlers’ Hospice so hopefully this show is good as well. Over at the Ottobar one of Philly’s best, Jukebox The Ghost roll into town with Danger Man and The Lombards opening. Also don’t forget that Tricky will be at Rams Head Live. Down in DC Mi Ami, Food For Animals, and Lexie Mountain Boys play the Velvet Lounge while The Moderate and Person Parcel take over the Black Cat for a night. Up north in Philly it’s thriving tonight as well. All The Saints play the Barbary with These Arms Are Snakes, Coathangers, and Caverns while the World Cafe Live goes old school with Throwing Muses. Finally Vetiver plays Johnny Brenda’s with Sian Alice Group opening. Enjoy!

The Antlers have returned with their long awaited follow up album to Attic of the Universe. While Attic was the project of Peter Silberman’s solo work and was primarily upbeat, he decided to take a much different route when building this new album. Due out on March 3rd, the album, entitled Hospice, is lonely, deep, dark, fragile, as well as powerful and intense. Silberman’s distinct and ragged delivery spins a dusty gray city that everyone knows but constantly avoids. Then he rolls in the full band to turn the lights on and expose it’s beauty. It’s not often you get to listen to an album like this so do yourself a favor on March 3rd and pick it up, find a dark corner in a noisy room, put on some headphones, uncork a bottle of your favorite fermented beverage, and enjoy.
So here comes the weekend! Baltimore has some sweet happenings that I thought I’d mention. The Ottobar has Longwave, Colourmusic, and the Payola Reserve while the Recher Theatre has the Drive-By Truckers. Down in DC the 9:30 Club has Lionize and The Players while the Black Cat has Junior League Band, Hoots and Hellmouth and O’Tasty. Also don’t forget that Bryan Scary and the Shredding Tears are playing the Rock and Roll Hotel. Not too far from there in Vienna, Virginia Nicole Reynolds plays Jammin Java with Chris Pureka and Redshift. Up in Philly the North Star Bar has a good one with Xylos and The Honey Brothers while DeVotchKa plays World Cafe Live. The Fire has New Yorks Naked Hearts and The Antlers and finally don’t miss out on Ra Ra Riot’s show out at Swarthmore College. Enjoy!
Tonight in Baltimore don’t miss the fabulous Mates Of State at the Ottobar with Brother Reade and Avocado Happy Hour. Down in DC Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson and the Castanets play DC9 while hip hop flourishes over at the 9:30 Club with Jedi Mind Tricks, Outerspace, Reef The Lost Cauze, King Magnetic, and Adlib. Up in Philly Benjy Ferree and Shortstack play the M Room while Spanish Prisoners, The Antlers, and The Black Atlantic play the Fire. Enjoy!
