Remix: Memory Tapes takes on Phoenix and Tanlines

Is there a better way to kick off this crazy week than with some downright slick remixes from the always on point/always mysterious Memory Tapes?  I think not.  They recently dropped a super swell remix of True Panther’s Tanlines as well as jumped on the Phoenix remix bandwagon (a little late) with a remake of “1901″.  Check them:

Remix: YACHT takes on Phoenix’s Armistice

yacht

Two bands that put out stellar albums this year clash when YACHT does their bestest to bring their infectious styles to Phoenix’s “Armistice”.  I was pretty much hooked as soon as I heard the thick bass line bounce through the track, but the when Bizarre-Love-Triangle-like synths kicked in I nearly died and went to heaven.

Remix: Shuttle from Passion Pit takes on Phoenix

shuttle

Holy crap this is just what I needed for today.  Last night I managed little sleep so I’m….dragging…a bit.  Passion Pit’s Shuttle seems to be the cure right now with his G-R-E-A-T remix of Phoenix’s “Love Like A Sunset”.  It’s literally the only thing keeping my eyes open right now.  He’s taken the spacey original and woven a great/hard beat through the entire thing, all while keeping a slice of the original feel hanging around.  I’m amazed Shuttle pulled this off.  Check it:

Remix: Phoenix remixed by Animal Collective and Devendra Banhart/Neighbors

phoenix

Wow it’s been a busy week for remixes, especially since two prominent and pretty sweet ones came out of none other than Phoenix.  Sure there’s been a quadrillion attempts to remix this band and some have shined, some have not.  But when Devendra Banhart and Animal Collective are mentioned, one has to be a bit excited.  Apparently DB was a fan of Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix much like the rest of the world and jumped at the chance to take part in the remix of “Rome” with Neighbors.  The re-arranged version is soft, subtle, and beautiful.  The same can be said about Animal Co Deakin’s re-imagination of “Love Like A Sunset”.  Really this was the song(s) I thought AC would tackle.  There are some similar vibes coming off it that naturally meet up with AC’s expansive shimmering sound.  Anyway…enough talk…

Remix: Friendly Fires takes on Phoenix’s Fences

phoenix fences remix

Friendly Fires remixing Phoenix?  NOICE!  Listening to this remix of “Fences” I’m reminded of old school club music meshed with modern day slice and dice mix mayhem.  Some of the toning is a little strange, but all in all the remix comes as advertised.  Check it:

And guess what…this will not be the last remix of “Fences” you hear because Phoenix, like the kind folks they are, have offered up the stems for all to use and re-work.  Get them here and get ready for the wave.

Remix: A Fight For Love and 25 Hours A Day combine to take on Phoenix’s Lisztomania

phoenix

Phoenix = good music.  That’s a fact.  What’s also true is that there have been an overload of Phoenix remixes as of late.  I mean we’re stepping into Lykke Li/Radiohead territory for remix saturation.  Most of the time I just glaze past them but when the actual band posts a remix to their blog, I stop and listen.  Phoenix recently put up this fab combo remix of “Lisztomania” by Paris’ A Fight For Love and 25 Hours A Day.  Check it:

Around The Net – New The Dodos, Friendly Fires, and More…

arounddaweb

IGIF featured one of the leaked tracks, “Fables”, from The Dodos‘ upcoming album Time To Die album.  Their debut, Visiter, was a raw energetic folk explosion of an album.  The vibe is pushed way down on this track for a more polished studio sound.  It’s okay…I guess.

Pretty Much Amazing just posted this new Friendly Fires track, “Kiss Of Life” (the quality is ho hum).  I love the swarms of rhythm packed into it.  It just makes me want to run, dance, flip, and holler all at once.

Numerous blogs have been raving about the new collaboration of Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis, Jim James, and M.Ward aka Monsters Of Folk and their first released track “Say Please” off of the S/T album to come out on September 22nd.  “Say Please” sounds like an old fashioned McCartney sing along jam and there’s nothing wrong with that at all.

Of course I don’t think there’s been a week where I haven’t come across a new remix of Phoenix’s “1901″.  This spaced out slider is courtesy of Fortune.

Quick Hits: Afghan Raiders

afghan raiders

Las Vegas’ Afghan Raiders are tearing up my inbox as of late.  Not only did they just send over their new singles “Morphine Dream” and “Admiral’s Doorbell”, which are intense alleyway electronic drama pop tales, they also dropped off a rough and raucous version of Phoenix’s “1901″.  Listen and love:
