The Run Down – New Years Eve 2009!!

Most likely you already you already have plans for this night of all nights, but just in case….here’s a small list of parties going on at the area’s clubs.  Here in Baltimore the big ticket is Wu-Years Eve at Sonar featuring Method Man, Rza, Gza, Ghostface, Raekwon, Masta Killa, U-God, Cappadonna and Inspecta Deck.  If you don’t like that sound just wall two steps over to Sonar’s club stage to check the Taxlo Dance Party with Sri Aurobindo, Simon Phoenix, Cullen Stalin, Chris O, and Emily Rabbit.  If that doesn’t float your boat then travel over to Sonar’s VIP lounge to see Saleem & The Music Lovers, Wendel Patrick, Ogun, Brown Fish, Skarr Akbar, Kage, and DJ P-Funk.  Wow is right!  Three shows in one place is pretty amazing.   Also in Baltimore is a grand event at the Ottobar.  Gilded Lilly Burlesque and the American Music Jamboree present a night of dance and music featuring The Country Devils, Whale Show, Labianca, Cold Cold Heartbreakers and more.  Also in town is a great party at the Wind Up Space with DLake and Napspace and another celebration over at the Metro Gallery with Snacks, AK Slaughter, Baby Venom, and The Agrarians.

In DC there are also an abundance of quality NYE shows.  The 9:30 Club has Robert Randolph and the Family Band and Justin Jones and The Driving Rain.  A complimentary champagne toast included!  The Black Cat has a NYE Ball with Peaches O’Dell and Her Orchestra, Tony Anthony and his Malvivants plus DJ Mark Zimin on the backstage.  The Rock and Roll Hotel has a night of rock and DJing going on with Pash, Loderunner, US Royalty, Chris Burns (Disco City), Austin (Garutachi), AutoRock (Mass Appeal), Gavin Holland (Nouveau Riche), Cale (Brightest Young Things), and an Exactly DJ Set (Adrian & Cole w/Jesse Bishop as MC).  Also don’t forget about DC9 who has a New Years edition of their Liberation Dance Party.

In Virginia there happens to be a couple of noteworthy shows to bring in the new year as well.  In Arlington, Iota kicks the night into gear with Last Train Home and the Justin Trawick Group.  In Fredericksburg The Third Floor has Rocky’s Revival, The Red Light Effect, and Tereu Tereu.

If you’re heading up north to Philly for the final countdown, then keep these events in mind.  The Fire has Cowmuddy while the Electric Factory has Gogol Bordello.  The Khyber has No Tight Pants, Dj Lexx, DJ R’N'G, Moshpit Rainbow, DJ Vertigo, Headbanger, DJ Jesse Merlin, and Stakeout.  Spend New Years Eve with Dada at the North Star Bar (they’ll be performing a three hour set) or check out Steve Bloodbath at the M Room.  It’s going to be pure fun at the Fillmore at the TLA with They Might Be Giants and Corn Mo.  Finally Johnny Brenda’s has a nice year closer show with Pattern Is Movement and The Mural and The Mint.

Holy crap!  That’s some serious partying.  Enjoy!  Have a happy new year!!
