When I first heard that Passion Pit had remixed England’s Max Tundra and his track “Which Song” I really wasn’t surprised. The two of them have that quirky electronic pop/coolness that bonds them together instantly. But I must say the remix PP put out is strong…especially the over-drive synths that kick in. I’ve never completely taken to Max Tundra before, but this remix has me thinking otherwise.
San Fran’s Ring Trick, producer of perhaps one of my favorite Radiohead remixes, is being quite the ambitious musician this month by posting a demo a day on his tumblr blog. If you’re in the mood for some solid electronics song sketches then please dig into what he’s doing here. He was nice enough to send us a few of the recently one-a-days so here they are:
Boston’s Bodega Girls play that off beat Architecture In Helsinki meets Black Kids indie dance funk hip hop that interests me greatly. This style also blends seamlessly when they introduce it to Passion Pit and their sweet remix of “To Kingdom Come”. Check it:
Here I am going along and I just noticed that Passion Pit released a video for “To Kingdom Come” off of Manners. Where was I? Anywho the video features the band rocking, scientists sciencing, and moustaches galore. Here’s the video directed by Mixtape Club:
Perhaps two of this years most notable bands, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Passion Pit, collide in this recent remix of Yeah Yeah Yeahs “Heads Will Roll”. As with the Animal Collective rework of “Zero”, I was expecting a jaw dropping sonic treat, but, like with the AC remix, it comes up a tad short. Not to say it’s horrible or a failure, but my expectations are huge after the greatness of Manners, and Passion Pit do an average job remixing “Heads Will Roll”. It’s got that techno house vibe with a decent beat and a lovely fade away build up moment in the middle.
Passion Pit seem to be on the tip of everyone’s ears these days which is not really a surprises since their debut album, Manners, is a gem. They also haven’t shied away from taking on some remix projects. Their most recent adventure is with Dan Black’s “Symphonies”. I really like what they did. The original is pretty marvelous indeed, but Passion Pit put their electronic fingerprint on it and flush the track of that heavy beat/symphonic sound and replace it with an arcade of synths. Check it:
Miike Snow seems to be all over the place these days…and so does Passion Pit. So it’s only natural they’d meet up on this nice new remix Miike Snow has done of the track “The Reeling”. I like the direction Miike Snow went with the track – seems a bit bouncier/happier than the original. The changes aren’t severe, but I dig it.
While Passion Pit has nicely set up a remix contest for the song Little Secret, there have been quite a few solid remixes of the lead single from Manners, “The Reeling”. UK’s Burns is new to me but this remix is hot. Wallpaper. takes the remix of the track to new heights with their full band reinterpretation – almost Herbie Hancock fusion jazz like. Finally Passion Pit’s own drummer Nate Donmoyer gets in on it with his redux under the name Shuttle (I knew of shuttle before and like it but had no idea he was the drummer of Passion Pit). This one might be the best of the bunch.
