Somehow I missed this video for Of Montreal’s “An Eluardian Instance” when it first came out. It’s one of my top tracks from Skeletal Lamping and features some sunny kite flying on an island – CRAZY STYLE of course! Check it:
Satanic Panic In The Attic, The Sunlandic Twins, Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer – all favorites of mine and all Of Montreal. You can now add Skeletal Lamping to the list. Of Montreal is a rare band that combine glam, soul, punk, house, electronica, funk, indie rock, and performance art all into one flaming cauldron of spectacle. Somehow it all seems to congeal into solid album after solid album. Skeletal Lamping has them picking up right where Hissing Fauna left off and that path seems to lead down to a bath of sexual innuendos and psychedelia (somehow I don’t see any of these songs popping up on an Outback commercial). Don’t let that ward you off….this Skeletal Lamping is an audio feast and worth every cent.
While you might be in the middle of putting the perfect costume together, I thought I’d just spill a little knowledge on some of the shows tonight. Down in DC the uber-band Coldplay rolls into the Verizon Center with Duffy while on a much smaller stage at Iota Junior League and The Resurrectionists play. Up in Philly the place to be is the Starlight Ballroom with Man Man, Tim Fite, and Pit Er Pat. No wait the place to be is the Electric Factory with Of Montreal and Gang Gang Dance. Aw shucks, I’m mistaken again. The place to be is the North Star Bar with Murs and Kidz In The Hall. I guess it’s really up to you where you should be.
Of Montreal’s new album, Skeletal Lamping, is out now and I’m still digesting it. Right now it pretty much makes me feel just like this video of “Id Engager” which was directed by Marc Reisbig and Hanne Berkaak and features some pretty excellent/hilarious morphing animation. Take a look:

Keep your eyes peeled for an album review of Skeletal Lamping soon.
Tonight in DC Laura Burhenn, Olivia & The Housemates, Lode Runner, and The Spiritual Machine are at the Rock and Roll Hotel while Apollo Sunshine and Tulsa are at DC9. Also down south are The Caribbean, Pale Young Gentlemen, Ash Lovely, and Don Zientara who play the Velvet Lounge while Of Montreal and Love Is All take on the 9:30 Club. Up in Philly Against Me! with special guests Ted Leo & the Pharmacists and Future Of The Left play the Electric Factory while Girl Talk, Grand Buffet, and Heart Of Darkness ravage the Starlight Ballroom. Finally up in Philly The New Year, Dirty On Purpose, and Tre Orsi (ex Okkervil River) play Johnny Brenda’s. Enjoy (and please let me know if there’s anything I’ve forgotten)!
