Suggested Listening: Nancy

About a year ago I received an email from band from Brazil named Nancy asking me to take a listen to their myspace page and let them know what I thought.  I was pretty impressed.  Solid dream pop music with hints of blues and indie rock and some powerful lead vocals from Camila Zamith.  Time passed and I started seeing their name pop up on the blogs here and there and then, BOOM….I get an email with Nancy’s EP Keep Cooler.  The music was the same yet stronger because of the devoted studio time.  This band is doing something different out of Brazil and deserve the listen.

The Run Down – March 12, 2009

Tonight has a bum rush of shows and I’m here to talk about some of them.  Here in Baltimore the Zodiac has EAR PWR, Adventure, Dinowalrus, and Bachelor Of The Arts.  Should be sweet.  Also the hip hop poet himself, Common will be rolling into Sonar with Saleem and the Music Lovers and Wendel Patrick opening.  Rams Head Live has one of my (and probably everyone else’s) favorites in Modest Mouse performing.  Also don’t forget that Eureka Birds are playing/recording a micro show at 2603 N. Charles St.  Space will be limited.  Down in DC Hoots and Hellmouth perform at the Rock and Roll Hotel with Good Old War while Nancy plays the Red and the Black with Jay Paslay.  The 9:30 Club is the place to be though with Bell X1 and another one of my favorites, Harlem Shakes opening.  Finally up in Philadelphia Bishop Allen rock the First Unitarian Church while Langhorne SLim, The Bones Royal, and Red Collar play Johnny Brenda’s.  Enjoy!

The Run Down – March 11, 2009

Another night comes and Baltimore is swelling with good shows. Sonar has a dynamite one with local favorites Beach House, Vetiver, Sian Alice Group, and Steve Strohmeier. The Metro Gallery has good one with Brazil’s Nancy while Joe Squared has Person Parcel and FFHH. Down in DC don’t miss out on The Antlers and Nunchucks at the Black Cat. If you do hopefully you’ve made it to the Rock and Roll Hotel to see All The Saints, These Arms Are Snakes, and Clouds. Finally in DC comes hip hop/poet/gap commercial rapper Common to the 9:30 Club. Enjoy!
