Our friend Sheena Beaston popped the new year off right when she premiered a new track, “Circle Mass”, from Chicago’s My Gold Mask. Check it:

I completely fell in love with this duo’s debut album (read my review here) and even suggested a comparison to the legendary Siouxsie Sioux. Now they have a 5 track EP A Thousand Voices about to drop tomorrow and features the above track as well as the equally amazing “Violet Eyes“. Don’t hesitate, go get it here.

I’m starting to think that The Hood Internet can do wrong. Actually I’m going on record write now and saying that’s a fact. The Hood Internet can do NO WRONG. My Gold Mask, one of my favorite new bands, get the remix treatment from THI with their song “Bitches”. THI splices the song up with some Roxy Music and boy does it work perfectly!

and here’s the original which is kick ass in it’s own right:

Chicago’s My Gold Mask is a band born from a home recording experiment between singer/drummer Gretta Rochelle and guitarist Jack Armondo. Their sound is raw and beautiful. Sparse guitars and drums frame each song but the bulk of the music is carried by Rochelle’s distinct and powerful voice (an instrument in itself). They self released their debut 9 track affair digitally and on limited edition cassette last month and I’ve fallen for it hard. I am particularly caught up in the songs that somewhat remind me of Siouxsie Sioux and her work with The Creatures. My Gold Mask is a must hear new band.
