First off let me say that I really thought MSTRKRFT’s Fist Of God was going to be stellar, but sadly….it was not. Now they come and take on the Yeah Yeah Yeahs‘ track “Zero”. The outcome is okay. Really the original of this track is soooo good, any remix does not come close. Perhaps Animal Collective will step up to the task when the single comes out.

MSTRKRFT’s album Fist Of God is almost here (due out on St. Patty’s Day), but I thought I’d mention some sweet remixes that have been getting some playing time around here. The first is Ireland/UK’s Screendeath’s version of “Click Click”. This is purely instrumental – taking out E-40s verses and smoothing over some of the grit MSTRKRFT is known for.

The next is everybody’s favorite DJ A-Trak and his version of “Bounce” featuring NORE. A-Trak took this track back to old school hip hop and dance music. There’s even a “Hey Ladies” cowbell that shows up. Nice.

This week has been an interesting one hasn’t it? You’ve got the chimp attacking people then getting shot then inspiring a controversial comic strip for the New York Post criticizing Obama and the stimulus plan. The Oceanic 6 are now back on the island…finally…and finally there’s an episode that had only one flash of light in it…they were getting a little excessive with that. Tonight is also the last night for Conan O’Brien in the Big Apple. I’m hoping it all works out for him on the west coast. If you’re a sports fan the Orioles spring training is now in full swing… umm… whoopee? Hard to get excited about that when we haven’t had a winning season since Quantum Leap was all the rage… but if you focus on the O’s perhaps it will take your mind off of the beating the Maryland Men’s Basketball team just took at Clemson…yikes. I digress. Here’s to hoping the weekend brings some cheer to all you folks. Since I can’t serve alcohol on this blog here’s some remixes on the rocks.

I’m pretty excited about this new MSTRKRFT album Fist Of God (due out March 17th – hey just in time for St. Patty’s Day), but when I heard this track, “Click Click”, over on Pretty Much Amazing, I almost jumped out of my seat. I don’t use the term ‘bangin’…well….ever, but if I did, I would use it to describe this song. Here ya go:

It’s been a hot second since Toronto duo Jesse F. Keeler and Al-P aka MSTRKRFT released their debut album The Looks. Well they have finally announced that their follow up album (possibly called Fist Of God) should be out on March 17th (just in time for some St. Pats partying) via Dim Mok/Downtown Records. They said this album sees the group flirting with “darker, underground disco and house, with elements of American rock music” and features E-40, Freeway, and Lil’ Mo. Can’t wait!

Tonight Dan Deacon brings his Round Robin tour to Philly’s Starlight Ballroom. This sounds pretty awesome. Basically numerous bands set up their gear in one large circle with the crowd being in the center. Then each band alternates playing one song a piece going full circle throughout the night. Pretty cool huh? Tonight’s line up features Beach House, Jana Hunter, Santa Dads, Lexie Mountain, Nautical Almaniac, Lizz King, Creepers, WZT Hearts, Ed Schrader, and Sand Cats. Also in Philly is Ra Ra Riot who play Johnny Brenda’s with Walter Meego and The Morning Benders. In DC the 9:30 Club has The Notwist and Dosh while the Velvet Lounge has Stella Schindler, Miwa Gemini, and Sean Mcardle. Finally in Baltimore Bedrock has MSTRKRFT’s Fist of God Tour with LA Riots, Felix Cartal, Chavy Boys, Scottie B., Shawn Caesar, and King Tutt. I think that’s everything, but let me know if there’s more.

Next up is Talkdemonic, Bon Savants, and Albatross at the Red and the Black while Ra Ra Riot, Walter Meego, and The Morning Benders play the Black Cat. Finally up north in Philly don’t miss the MSTRKRFT Fist of God Tour at the Fillmore at the TLA featuring special guests LA Riots, Felix Cartel, and Congorock.
