Our friends Middle Distance Runner just gave us word on a short and sweet tour their doing with another fab band Pretty & Nice. Check the flier above for the dates and here’s some tunes to listen to while you do it:

Those DC boys, Middle Distance Runner, are back with a new video for their new single “The Unbeliever” (available digitally on Itunes March 17th and in stores on March 24th). Apparently they’ve always longed to be claymationized and director Maxwell Sorensen was the man to do it. It’s actually a pretty factual representation of how the recording process works. Check it:
So that’s what happened to the Book Of The Dead. Anywho, they eventually pieced them all back together just in time for a trip to SXSW (where they’ll be selling some smokin hot copies of this new single). Don’t forget MDR is playing a special Pasta Primavera endorsed show at the Metro Gallery on March 29th with Eulogies and Payola Reserve.

Holy crap! Did you read that headline? It’s true! We’ve teamed up with the fabulous Metro Gallery here in Baltimore to bring you one of our favorite DC bands Middle Distance Runner on March 29th. Earlier in March they’ll be playing SXSW then they kick off this tour with another favorite of mine, Eulogies as well as locals Payola Reserve. Baltimore has the honor of being the closing date of the small tour so you know the gang will be crazy energized. MDR will also be playing in support of their upcoming 7″ single The Unbeliever (which is kick ass). We are super proud to be a part of this event and would love to see a lot of our readers out in support. Be sure to keep an eye out for some giveaways leading up to the show.

Holy cow there’s a lot of shows tonight. In Baltimore the amazing Abby Mott is playing the cozy El Rancho Grande over in Hampden. A new brand of hip hop is on the rise and you can witness it when Height With Friends has his album release at the Zodiac. Nuclear Power Pants and Gavin Riley perform as well. The Hexagon has a great one as well with Montreal’s The World Provider. Also in Baltimore, Sonar has Nightmare Of You, US Royalty, Bottle Up & Go, and Coast To Coast. In DC tonight don’t forget about Middle Distance Runner’s Presidential Welcoming Party at the Rock and Roll Hotel with special guests Mobius Band, The Black Hollies, and The Nunchucks. Finally up north in Philly the Fillmore at the TLA has Adele, The Fire has Illinois, Drink Up Buttercup, Toy Soldiers, The Private Sea, and Oceanographer, while Johnny Brenda’s has Frightened Rabbit and Arc In Round. Also don’t forget about The Swimmers, Grammar Debate, Jotto, and DJ Looseleaf at the North Star Bar.

As you might of guessed we here at Pasta Primavera are pretty big Middle Distance Runner fans. So naturally I was super excited to find a new track from them waiting in my inbox this past week. It’s entitled “Brother John” and you might have noticed the music on that Harley Davidson commercial that has been floating through the airwaves. I’ve heard this one live a couple of times now and it’s really starting to grow on me. Of all their songs this one really sports that late 60s-70s rock rock vibe (Steppenwolf?). Check out this exclusive track:

You can check them out live and perhaps they’ll play this song just for you. When you ask? Why on January 16th at the Rock and Roll Hotel where they’ll be hosting a Presidential welcoming party. Also on the bill are the Black Hollies, Mobius Band, and the Nunchucks. Holy crap that’s a sweet line up.

Tonight in Arlington there’s a super special memorial show for Nan Irick at Iota. The line up includes our friends Middle Distance Runner, Greenland, The Cassettes, and Revival. If I could be anywhere tonight, I would be there. If can’t quite make that one then there’s also a great show here in Baltimore at the Ottober featuring Evan Dando of the Lemonheads, Gary B and the Notions, and The Jennifers. Enjoy!

Let me start this little rant off by saying it’s an odd feeling seeing a show in a night club in the middle of the day. Luckily the 8x10.com/index_content.html" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.the_a_href=_http_//www.the8x10.com/_rel=_external_title=_8x10_/a_.com/index_content.html?referer=');">8×10 is such a sweet little club with a laid back atmosphere (and superb sound to boot) so I was at ease for this perfect stripped down set and interview from Middle Distance Runner for WTMD’s great feature show, Baltimore Unsigned. WTMD has the knack for picking great bands for this special feature (they previously had local favorites Eureka Birds, Among Wolves, and The Oranges Band) and they’ve done it again choosing MDR and the 8×10. I didn’t know what to expect this set to sound like seeing as it was only lead singer/guitarist Stephen Kilroy and guitarist/keyboardist (and banjo player?) Allan Chappelear. As it turns out it was just like any other MDR event, FUN. They always seem to have a good time. Though I was yearning for some Erik Dean drumming, it was nice to get to hear laid back swinging versions of Naturally, and The Sun and The Earth (it’s not often you get to hear this song with a banjo). As a treat for the slew of fans that made it out, they also performed two new ones, Joyful Noise, and The Fury (which I shot some video of – check it after the jump), both of which should be on their new album which they are just finishing up for a 2009 release (and it was mentioned that the album will have a organic soul influence to it). Sam Sessa was a great host for WTMD. He allowed the personalities of Allan and Stephen to shine throughout the interview making it a truly enjoyable afternoon. The session will be aired next Tuesday at 8pm on 89.7 WTMD and they will surely put some more content up here as well.

If you’ve planned ahead, then you might be attending the free show/recording session Middle Distance Runner is putting on for WTMD at the 8×10 this afternoon. Should be pretty awesome to hear some new songs and acoustical versions. Tonight in Baltimore there are some other notable shows though starting with Necking, Teeth Mountain, Whales and Cops, Hume, and Twins at the Hexagon. Over at the Sidebar, Me You Us Them perform with Appomattox and T-Shirt T-Shirt. Down in DC don’t miss out on The Dance Party, Ra Ra Rasputin, Greenland, and The Nunchucks at the Rock and Roll Hotel. Up in Philly again there’s a load of great shows. First up is The Subjects and Hank IV at Pilam. Next M83 and School Of Seven Bells play the Starlight Ballroom. Finally Peter and the Wolf and Juliette Commagere play the Fire while Kings of Leon, We Are Scientists, and The Whigs conquer the Electric Factory.
