Remix: MGMT takes on Violens’ Doomed

violens

MGMT has dipped into the remix realm themselves a few times before (Chairlift and Black Kids being the notable ones), but those never really floated my boat too much.  They take another stab at it with their redux of Violens‘ “Doomed”.  MGMT opens this track up a bit adding some depth to the vocals and bolstering the rhythms as well.  All in all it’s the most appealing remix they’ve done that I’ve heard – nothing over the top – just solid.

While we’re on the Violens remix tip, here’s an older one I don’t think I posted before:

New MGMT Video – Kids

mgmt

MGMT has just released a new video for “Kids” off of Oracular Spectacular.  In it we find a child experiencing one of the worst days of his life.  Monsters everywhere, a mom who’s oblivious, and a freaky children’s show on television.  If it wasn’t for that mystical group of fellows in the park with the dog wearing a silver lampshade, who knows ho bad it could have become.  Why’s mom gotta trash the cool headband?

Remix: Pet Shop Boys take on MGMT’s “Kids”

seriously_pet_shop_boys

Have you heard of MGMT?  Just kidding…I’m pretty sure everyone has…and some times a little too much.  Their track “Kids” has been covered and remixed a bazillion times, but when Pet Shop Boys take their turn, I take notice.  They take back to the days and nights of neon lights, neon clothes, and synthesizers galore.  It’s called the Pet Shop Boys “Synthpop Remix” and by golly that’s definitely what it is.  Check it:

Friday (I’m A Remix)

This week is turning out to fairly unpleasant at work.  I now sit amongst a growing foul stench being emitted from the wet carpet at the back of my workplace.  An overflowing toilet was the culprit.  So the wait begins for the carpet cleaning people get here to make it smell like roses.  I guess it could be worse (I do enjoy my day job for the most part).  It’s just when a foul odor is strong it can really disrupt your mind and manner.  Maybe if I just crank the music it loud, it will ease the…uneasiness.

Pasta Primavera’s Favorite Albums of 2008

pasta

Before I start this thing off let me just say that I hate making lists.  I’m more of a pile person.  So you won’t see any numbers in the list of albums, rather my top five followed by my other favorites.  So here it goes.

Nada Surf has been a favorite band of mine since their first album (that was a ways back).  It’s amazing how much their sound has matured since then, and Lucky truly shows that they’re on top of their game.  It’s indie pop rock at it’s best.  And they’re killer live!

mp3: Nada Surf – The Fox

Buy Lucky (bonus track version)

For a while there Department Of Eagles’ In Ear Park was all I was listening to.  Daniel Rossen and friends put together a gem of an album that took elements of Grizzly Bear and mashed them up with some McCartney-like pop.

Buy In Ear Park

The Walkmen’s You & Me took them from a band that I casually enjoyed from time to time, to a full on wonder that I try to set aside time to listen to when ever I can.  The Walkmen have always had an interesting sound that travels from a dark alleyway to an extravagant cathedral, but You & Me magnifies it even more and leaves me in awe.  It’s powerful.

Buy You & Me

It’s rare that an album or person lives up to the hype.  Lykke Li and her album Youth Novels does just that.  I fell in love with her sound quickly then pushed over the edge with her amazing energy that she puts into her live performances.   Despite the insane amount of remixes and radio plays, Youth Novels still hasn’t grown old to me and that’s also rare.

Buy Youth Novels

I can’t quite explain why I took to Glasvegas’ debut S/T album his year.  Perhaps it was the Beach Boys/Earth Angel/Smiths halo surrounding their black and white sound that enamored me.  It might not have a struck others the same way, but for me this album made an lasting impression.

Friday (I’m A Remix)

This week has been rather ho-hum which has been great. Nothing phenomenal happened, but nothing horrible either. The weekend seems wide open (except for the much anticipated MDR set at the 8×10 on Saturday afternoon – don’t miss it – it’s FREE!). Time to organize and be creative for a bit….it’s been a while. What’s your weekend like?

Friday (I’m A Remix)

It’s hard to think up words to describe this week in the US.  “Inspirational” has been floating out of peoples mouths all over, and I think I’m going to climb aboard that bandwagon.  We’ve all heard for months now about change and how it’s coming.  Well…it’s here…SWEET!  Here’s some tracks that hopefully aid your own inspirational week.

Video MGMT’s “The Youth”

When I first heard this song I’m pretty sure I didn’t think it was about children dressed up in sequined clothing standing on a giant solid gold record and battling breakdance-style…but I guess it is.  Take a look for yourself at the video directed by Eric Wareheim.
