Metric have a new video for one of my personal favorites, “Sick Muse”, off of Fantasies. They are literally up against the wall and in the spotlight for this one…and also completely foolin’ ’round. Enjoy!
Metric have just released a new video for the track “Help, I’m Alive” (probably my favorite off of Fantasies). It’s actually a short film by Deco Dawson with Metric’s song as the soundtrack.
Clearly one of my favorite tracks on Metric’s Fantasies, “Help, I’m Alive” gets the remix treatment from Brazil’s The Twelves on their single for the track. The Twelves are just showing off now. Every remix I’ve heard by them is killer and is the case with this one. They wrap Metric up in a disco house blanket and beckon you to strap on some roller skates and ride around to this tune.
I remember way way back catching an ear of Metric’s “Combat Baby” – an aggressive pop number that had me locked into this new found band. Over the years they’ve slowly built in an electronic psych sound that simply fits. Now with their new album, Fantasies, they’ve pushed to a new plateau. While listening to Fantasies I’ve noticed that their sound has almost doubled in size – levels upon levels of sounds, synths, guitars, and phases make this one epic all over. What keeps it grounded is what always has carried this band – Emily Haines. A pure voice with great song writing. If you haven’t had the chance to check this album out, I say go for it right now.
Metric, who have a new album Fantasies, have just put out a new video for the track “Gimme Sympathy”. When you start watching this you’ll say, “This is really it?” The band playing for nobody in some random basement. Boring. But wait – there are some twists that are entertaining. Song’s pretty good too…if you like Metric.
Coming in April Metric will release their fourth full length entitled Fantasies. Since they love their fans so much they’ve decided to put up for free (well they ask for your email) an exclusive acoustic version of “Help, I’m Alive” that will not be on the album. Trust me it’s worth your email to hear this piano version of the track.
In other Metric news that pesky remixer/masher Immuzikation is back with his re-realized version of the track “Help I’m Alive”. The tempo is bumped up a notch and the beat is a gunner. Check it:

Fantasies comes out on April 14th – pre order it here.
This week has been an interesting one hasn’t it? You’ve got the chimp attacking people then getting shot then inspiring a controversial comic strip for the New York Post criticizing Obama and the stimulus plan. The Oceanic 6 are now back on the island…finally…and finally there’s an episode that had only one flash of light in it…they were getting a little excessive with that. Tonight is also the last night for Conan O’Brien in the Big Apple. I’m hoping it all works out for him on the west coast. If you’re a sports fan the Orioles spring training is now in full swing… umm… whoopee? Hard to get excited about that when we haven’t had a winning season since Quantum Leap was all the rage… but if you focus on the O’s perhaps it will take your mind off of the beating the Maryland Men’s Basketball team just took at Clemson…yikes. I digress. Here’s to hoping the weekend brings some cheer to all you folks. Since I can’t serve alcohol on this blog here’s some remixes on the rocks.

Looking to mellow out a bit before the strangle hold of the work week really sets in? Then Sonar in Baltimore has the tonic for your ills with the legendary Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry along with HR and the Human Rights Band, Lionize, and Fasimba Sound. Also in Baltimore just a few feet from Sonar at the Talking Head are The Takeover Uk, The Dig, and Junestar. Finally up in Philly don’t miss out on Metric at the World Cafe Live.
