Remix: Memory Tapes takes on Phoenix and Tanlines

Is there a better way to kick off this crazy week than with some downright slick remixes from the always on point/always mysterious Memory Tapes?  I think not.  They recently dropped a super swell remix of True Panther’s Tanlines as well as jumped on the Phoenix remix bandwagon (a little late) with a remake of “1901″.  Check them:

memory tapes

It’s been a while since Memory Tapes has hit us off with some new tracks, then BAM!  Two new ones right here and both are SWEET (and quite different from each other originally).  Check ‘em:

mp3: The Silent League – Yours Truly, 2095 (Memory Tapes Remix) (my review of the new Silent League, But You’ve Always Been the Caretaker, is coming soon by the way)

Remix: Memory Tapes takes on Yeasayer + New Single

memory

That new Yeasayer single “Ambling Alp” has been burning up my speakers as of late.  Memory Tapes has long since killed my speakers with the fab Seek Magic album.  These two speaker killing forces meet up when Memory Tapes wrangles “Ambling Alp” like only he can.

In other Memory Tapes news, on his blog a new single for “Graphics” (one of my favorites off Seek Magic) was put up for free download.  It features an edited version of the track as well as a solid b-side in “Easy Pert Mom”.  Check it:

Midnight Juggernauts Remixed By The Juan Maclean, Memory Tapes, Nile Delta, and Emperor Machine

midnight juggernauts

A few weeks ago Midnight Juggernauts unveiled their first slice of new music with the single “This New Technology” (get it here via Acephale).  Now they’ve backed that up with a handful of remixes for the single.  I was pumped when I saw that Memory Tapes and The Juan Maclean were some of the contributors, but all in all each one is solid.  Which is your favorite?

Remix: Memory Tapes take on Fool’s Gold’s Nadine

memory tapes

In addition to releasing the sweet Seek Magic, Memory Tapes has been busy remixing and being their usual awesome self.  This can be heard with their new version of Fool’s Gold’s “Nadine”.  As can be expected the song structure has been broken down the completely redesigned into a new audio form that pleases my ears.  Check it:

Taken By Trees Cover Animal Collective and get the remix treatment from Memory Tapes

taken by trees

I’ve been listing to Taken By TreesEast Of Eden, their upcoming album out on September 8th via Rough Trade, for the last few weeks now and I’ve decided that it is praiseworthy.  Victoria Bergsman went out on a limb and traveled to Pakistan to record the album with sufi musicians.  The result is a beautiful amalgam of middle eastern rhythms and vibes sewn together with Bergsman’s soft folk songwriting.  An interesting highlight is her translation of perhaps one of the biggest songs of the year – Animal Collective’s “My Girls”.  As can be expected it’s a timid affair compared to the original, but I do find that Bergsman does the song justice by reducing it to such a simple form – and re-titles it “My Boys” (perhaps to make it somewhat here own?).

On the flip side of all of this, the first single from East Of Eden “Watch The Waves” has received a re-work courtesy of the mysterious Weird Tapes/Memory Cassette mash Memory Tapes.  Take a listen….it’s good.

Remix: The Horrors take on Memory Tapes’ Bicycle

memory tapes

Memory Tapes, the glorious hybrid of Weird Tapes and Memory Cassette, produced one of my favorite tracks this year in “Bicycle” from the forthcoming debut Seek Magic.  Now the track is receiving the remix treatment and first up is The Horrors and their cosmic dub version.  I spoke of The Horrors and their new album Primary Colours back in May and how their sound was a blend of punk and rain drenched melancholy.  Well they bring one half of that to the remix…literally.  This rained out track (I say that because rain sounds permeate the bulk of it) melds perfectly with Baltimore and the summer thunderstorms that seem to erupt everyday.  The remix is fairly calm and meditative until about half way through when some magical electronics wrap their hands around the heart of the song.
