Last year New York’s post rockers, Longwave, came back from a long hiatus and gave us Secrets Are Sinister – a large and in charge rock album that stills kicks my butt these days. “No Direction” is their new video from that album. It’s not really much going on in the visual department – they’re in some sort of studio rockin’ the song – but “No Direction” is a great track and it gives me another reason to pull out Secrets Are Sinister and give it another spin. Check the song and video:
Tonight in Baltimore is another TAXLO event at the Talking Head with DJs Cullen Stalin, Simon Phoenix, Chris O and a performance by Triobelisk. Also in town are Longwave who play the Recher Theatre with OK Go and Oppenheimer. If that doesn’t suit perhaps the Ottobar’s show for tonight will. They have Hipnotic Buddha, Matt Rocks, E. Joseph and the Phantom Hearts, and Gavin Elder. Down in DC the Red and the Black has a great show with one of my new favorites performing, Here We Go Magic. Callers and Typefighter open for them. Also in DC the Rocka and Roll Hotel has Lydia, Black Gold, and All The Day Holiday while the Black Cat has Kimya Dawson. Finally if you cross the district to Arlington you can catch Imperial China, Maserati, and Tone at Iota. Enjoy!

Tonight in Baltimore the Ottobar has a swell one with Anathallo, Sam Amidon, and We Read Minds while the Metro Gallery has The Plurals and The Rivals. Also don’t miss out on Kimya Dawson at 2640/St. Johns Church. She’s performing with 1602 Destructure Street and Beans. There’s also quite a few sweet shows up north in Philadelphia. The Danger Danger Gallery has Hearts Of Darknesses, Lemonade, and (((microwaves))) (my favorite band name to type). Also Johnny Brenda’s has Black Lips, Gentlemen Jesse & His Men, and PoPo while The Fire has Illinois and Cheers Elephant. Finally Longwave rolls into the Fillmore at the TLA with OK Go and Oppenheimer. Enjoy!
So here comes the weekend! Baltimore has some sweet happenings that I thought I’d mention. The Ottobar has Longwave, Colourmusic, and the Payola Reserve while the Recher Theatre has the Drive-By Truckers. Down in DC the 9:30 Club has Lionize and The Players while the Black Cat has Junior League Band, Hoots and Hellmouth and O’Tasty. Also don’t forget that Bryan Scary and the Shredding Tears are playing the Rock and Roll Hotel. Not too far from there in Vienna, Virginia Nicole Reynolds plays Jammin Java with Chris Pureka and Redshift. Up in Philly the North Star Bar has a good one with Xylos and The Honey Brothers while DeVotchKa plays World Cafe Live. The Fire has New Yorks Naked Hearts and The Antlers and finally don’t miss out on Ra Ra Riot’s show out at Swarthmore College. Enjoy!
Tonight in Baltimore don’t miss what is sure to be an intense show at the Talking Head with Fucked Up, Vincent Black Shadow, Deep Sleep, and Surroundings. Down in DC The Virgins and Lissy Trullie roll into the Rock and Roll Hotel while our friends Bellman Barker play DC9 with Tiger and the Snow (EP Release) and Perfect Souvenier. In Philly Johnny Brenda’s has Longwave, Colourmusic and The Cobbs and the M Room has Bryan Scary and the Shedding Tears with Sex Piano and Panic Years also performing. Enjoy!

Tonight there’s a slew of good shows around the area. Down in DC Longwave, The Shackeltons, and The Jackfields play DC9 while The Space has a sweet hip hop show with Pharoah Monch. Also Moby is playing the 9:30 Club. Over in Virginia Perfect Souvenier, and Played Tomorrow play Galaxy Hut. Philly also has a ton of shows. Kungfu Necktie has The Soft Pack (formerly the Muslims) while the M Room has The Skyler King, Bridges and Powerlines, and Curious Buddies. Height brings his Album release show to The Big Rock Candy Mountain with Nuclear Power Pants and Gavin Riley also performing. Finally at The Khyber Nickel Eye, Low Vs. Diamond, and Kill You In The Face. Enjoy!
On November 11th New York’s Longwave will release their long awaited fourth studio album, Secrets Are Sinister. The band’s long hiatus between albums (possibly fueled by label problems) has not hampered the end result. Produced by Peter Katis (Interpol), Secrets Are Sinister burns wildly with their patented post rock sound. The lead guitar is the focal point on many of the tracks as it slices down the middle of your heart with piercing and infectious melodies. Longwave certainly did not wait this extended amount of time to release a bag of lullabies. They came to rock well…and rock well they have (that’s Yoda speak for it’s the friggin’ bees knees).
In DC tonight there is The Cool Kids, Che Grand, and Dirty Water at the Black Cat while the 9:30 club has Swervedriver and Longwave. In Philly tonight The Breeders and The Mountain Boys play the Fillmore, while The Young Knives, Everest, and Greyhounds play Johnny Brenda’s. Also in Philly is De Novo Dahl at the north Star Bar with Whales And Cops, Caroline Liars, and The Marts. If you dare to brave Nissan Pavillion in Virginia, then why not check out the legendary Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
