Sweden’s Loney Dear captured my ears again with this years release of Dear John. Soft experimental folk pop at it’s best indeed. It’s been just announced that they are coming to this side of the Atlantic this fall when they tour with Asobi Seksu. How exciting (though the closest they come to Baltimore is the Philly show at Johnny Brenda’s on October 17th)! Check the full string of dates after the jump and check this right now:

The night is fleeting. Stars are shooting like years falling into a wishing well. The forest in the center of the city is my haven. Here nature becomes the to the fading streetlights. Here the darkest black becomes the brightest blue. This is where the sounds of Loney Dear’s Dear John make sense. An album that starts in a frenzy of movement and tension ends in deep thought and meditation. Dear John is an elegant album with a modern electronic framework (think The Notwist) put together with the kind human touch of Emil Svanangen. It’s really such in intricate and interesting album. Dear John swells in the beginning like this overflowing city of work and life then dims with more sentimental tracks towards the end that have a touch of Neil Young flowing through them. Quite a world Loney Dear have created.
Wow tonight in DC there are soooooo many good shows. First up the Passion Pit, Paper Route, Cale Parks event rolls into the District to the Black Cat. Over at DC9 they have a good one with The Explorers Club, Illinois and Giant. The Velvet Lounge has some good Philadelphia bands performing in Rad Racket and Grandchildren while the Sixth and I Historic Synagogue has Antony and the Johnstons. The real amazing show is going on at the 9:30 Club with Andrew Bird and Loney, Dear. Don’t despair Philly. There’s some good shows up north as well. The Khyber has a great up and coming band, The Kiss-Off performing. Also over at The Marvelous Records get ready for Wavves, Woods, and Weyes Bluhd. Enjoy!

As if we all weren’t excited enough that Sweden’s Loney Dear are releasing a new album, Dear John, in January, here they go and put together a super amazing tour with Andrew Bird. They have a few dates in December by themselves then in late January they kick off a mega tour with Mr. Bird (check the full list of dates after the jump). photo by ola elmqvist
I was a huge fan of the world Emil Svanängen had created with his Loney Dear release of Loney, Noir back in 2007. It has just been announce that Sweden’s Loney Dear has signed to Polyvinyl and has a new album, Dear John, to be released in January 2009. Here’s a stream of the first track off the album, “Airport Surroundings”.
