New York’s Lissy Trullie has been a favorite of mine for a while now so it brought a big smile to my face when I heard that she signed to Downtown Records recently. They will re-release her fab Self-Taught Learner EP on October 20th with an additional 4 unreleased tracks. One of which being a cover of Biz Markie’s “Just A Friend” with Adam Green!!!!! Also this fall she’s heading into the studio to record a debut full length with famed producer/Suede guitarist Bernard Butler (Duffy, Black Kids, Kate Nash). To get us all even more amped Lissy Trullie has made these fine remixes of the track “Boy Boy” available too:
Lissy Trullie has already bowled me over with her Self-Tight Learner EP which features a killer cover of Hot Chip’s “Ready For The Floor”. It’s probably one of the best covers I’ve heard in a while. Well guess what? It now has a video to go along with it (good guess!):
The video directed by Richard Kern (The Breeders, King Missile, Marilyn Manson) has Lissy blazing the song with her band in a large variety of outfits. Here’s the track:

Stereogum recently premiered a new video of Lissy Trullie’s “Boy Boy”. Her Self Taught Learner EP is still kicking my ass. While the video is nothing to write home about, the track is the friggin bees knees so check it:
Some nights I long for that dank club with the lights turned low. You know the one. No neon. No flat screens. No elbow room. Just neighbors. Just a spot. What music would there be? Well right now I’d love for it to be Lissy Trullie. This New Yorker is generating a bit of buzz, but playing it cool. Part Chrissie Hynde part Velvet Underground part fantastic. Trullie unleashes the kind of rock that’s not hard to fall in love with. Add a smokin’ cover of Hot Chip’s “Ready For The Floor” and her debut EP Self Taught Learner busts the thermometer of awesomeness (and those don’t come cheap dammit!).

The day after all the inauguration hoopla, it’s pretty calm around town, but there is one show in Baltimore you should not forget about. The Talking Head has The Honey Brothers and Jason Dove/Vacation Face – don’t miss it. If you’re up north in Philly there is plenty to do tonight. The World Cafe Live has the WXPN Musicians On Call Benefit with Rachael Yamagata, Andrew Lipke, and Matt Duke. Johnny Brenda’s has The Virgins (who are pretty darn good live) and Lissy Trullie. Finally over at Kungfu Knecktie Pissed Jeans and Fucked Up will tear it up.
