Tonight has a bum rush of shows and I’m here to talk about some of them. Here in Baltimore the Zodiac has EAR PWR, Adventure, Dinowalrus, and Bachelor Of The Arts. Should be sweet. Also the hip hop poet himself, Common will be rolling into Sonar with Saleem and the Music Lovers and Wendel Patrick opening. Rams Head Live has one of my (and probably everyone else’s) favorites in Modest Mouse performing. Also don’t forget that Eureka Birds are playing/recording a micro show at 2603 N. Charles St. Space will be limited. Down in DC Hoots and Hellmouth perform at the Rock and Roll Hotel with Good Old War while Nancy plays the Red and the Black with Jay Paslay. The 9:30 Club is the place to be though with Bell X1 and another one of my favorites, Harlem Shakes opening. Finally up in Philadelphia Bishop Allen rock the First Unitarian Church while Langhorne SLim, The Bones Royal, and Red Collar play Johnny Brenda’s. Enjoy!
Tonight here in Baltimore don’t miss out on Brazilian Girls who are set to tear down Sonar. Walk ten feet from there to check Dead Confederate, Sonic Bloom, and Julie Ocean at the neighboring Talking Head. If you happen to be down in DC Yelle is at the 9:30 Club while Langhorne Slim and Heartless Bastards are at the Black Cat. Enjoy! Please let me know if I missed any.
If you’re having a slow, drab, or horrible day, good ole Langhorne Slim has the pick me up you just might need with his new video for Restless, a stand out track off of his self titled full length album. So kick back, relax, and chop some wood…
Good god there’s some shows tonight! Here in Baltimore the Ottobar has Langhorne Slim, Scruggs, and our friends The Red Vines. Over at the Talking Head Jeremy Jay performs with A Cat Called Cricket, Pepi Ginsberg, and the lovely Abby Mott opening. Right next door to that is Jay Reatard playing Sonar with Vincent Black Shado and Ratsize. In DC the Velvet Lounge has Imaad Wasif with Two Part Beast, Jason Simon, and The Dustys. Finally in Philly, Johnny Brenda’s has Cheers Elephant, Elf Power, and Ham1 while The Fire has The Bloodsugars, Anna Christie, Cowmuddy, Frontier Ruckus, and Hoots & Hellmouth. Langhorne Slim is fun….fun…that’s right…fun. It’s a young Dylan/Guthrie dancing around the room with a band of merry friends, spicing up keys, strings, horns, accordions, and percussion all night long. It’s a revival holmes and you’re invited! Based out of Brooklyn, but originally from Langhorne, PA, Slim plays this raw folk like it was conducted by Tom Waits or even Dan Deacon (maybe that’s because they attended the same school and Dan Deacon played tuba for ‘em). It’s just infectiously pleasant all around. Langhorne Slim’s S/T came out on April 29th via Kemado Records. You might want to pick it up. Check the video after the jump.
MAY DAY! Celebrate it at Baltimore’s Charm City Art Space with Denton, Texas’ own Fishboy, The Up Set, Thee Lexington Arrows, and Markitect. Or perhaps you would like to go to DC for RJD2 and Happy Chichester at the 9:30 Club. Another option is Langhorne Slim performing at Iota. Finally you could head north to see Steve Goldberg and the Archenemies perform at The Fire in Philly with Sarah White and Sleeper Car.
Well if you missed any of the superb shows in Philly last night, you have a chance to check them out in DC tonight, butmaybe you want to stick to Baltimore. The Recher Theatre has a great one with Josh Ritter and Langhorne Slim. In DC the Black Cat has Tokyo Police Club, Meligrove Band and Smoosh, while the 9:30 Club has Atmosphere.
