The Run Down – March 10, 2009

Tonight there’s a whole slew of good shows in Baltimore.  First there’s the Metro Gallery who has The Antlers and The Owls Go.  I was a big fan of The Antlers’ Hospice so hopefully this show is good as well.  Over at the Ottobar one of Philly’s best, Jukebox The Ghost roll into town with Danger Man and The Lombards opening.  Also don’t forget that Tricky will be at Rams Head Live.  Down in DC Mi Ami, Food For Animals, and Lexie Mountain Boys play the Velvet Lounge while The Moderate and Person Parcel take over the Black Cat for a night.  Up north in Philly it’s thriving tonight as well.  All The Saints play the Barbary with These Arms Are Snakes, Coathangers, and Caverns while the World Cafe Live goes old school with Throwing Muses.  Finally Vetiver plays Johnny Brenda’s with Sian Alice Group opening.  Enjoy!

The Run Down – March 8, 2009

It’s not too often when there’s a night without a few choices for shows to go to.   Well tonight is one of those nights, but that’s okay because the one show of note is a good one (albeit a bit of a hike for those of us in Baltimore).  Up in Philadelphia Johnny Brenda’s has the amazing Jukebox The Ghost!!  How good is that?  The Armchairs, Hop Along, and Queen Ansleis open for them.  Enjoy!

The Run Down – February 28, 2009

Time to celebrate the last day of February!!!  Here’s my suggestions…DC9 in DC is having their 5 Year Anniversary party and are featuring performances from Jukebox The Ghost and J-Roddy Walston and The Business.  Should be dynamite!  Also in DC are Benjy Ferree, Tim Fite, and Laughing Man.  They play the Black Cat.  The Velvet Lounge has a good one with Deleted Scenes, Batata Doce (ex Rock*A*Teens), and Mittenfields while Dan Aurebach takes down the 9:30 Club.  Hacienda and Those Darlins open for him.  Up in Philly classic hip hop is in town with the Black Sheep at the Khyber.  Zilla Rocca opens.  Finally don’t forget that Thievery Corporation play the Electric Factory and Tapes ‘n Tapes, Wild Light and The Subjects continue their tour through the area making a stop at Johnny Brenda’s.  Enjoy!

The Run Down – December 12, 2008

Tonight Baltimore is sporting some fine musical events and we couldn’t be happier.  Over at the Gspot Ted Leo and Cale Parks perform.  Not sure if this is sold out (the DC and Philly shows are) but it most likely will (or it already is).  If you’re looking for a smaller but still solid show around town then look no further than the Sidebar who has the Asteroid #4 performing.  For a lighter sound then head over to the Talking Head to see Radar Brothers, E. Joseph, and the Payola Reserve.  If you’re in the mood for something of everything then head over to the Nowarehouse to se Pete Yorko and the One Man Band, Mischief Brew, The Mandroids, and Sacri-fi.  DC has a sweet show tonight at the Rock and Roll Hotel with the ever-fantastic Jukebox The Ghost, The Postelles, and Pretty & Nice.  There’s also a bag of super shows filling up Philly tonight.   The Fire has an acoustical flavored show featuring Hezekiah Jones, Cotton Jones, Oud Blues, The Feverfew, and Joseph Patrick Scott.  Finally don’t forget that My Brightest Diamond and Clare & The Reasons play the First Unitarian Church while House Of Fire play the North Star Bar, and last but not least the legendary Neil Young, Wilco, and Everest make some magic happen at the Wachovia Spectrum..

Hey there!  Baltimore is hoppin’ tonight with some sweel shows at two swell venues.  The Talking Head has what is sure to be a stand out show with Jukebox The Ghost, Pete & J, and Pretty & Nice.  Head over to Howard St. to the Ottobar for the amazing Manchester Orchestra, Dead Confederate, Kevin Devine, and All Get Out.  DC has some decent events tonight as well.  The Velvet Lounge has Poor But Sexy (ex-Dismemberment Plan), The Bloodsugars, and Typefighter while the Rock and Roll Hotel has My Brightest Diamond and Clare & the Reasons.  Meanwhile in Philly Johnny Brenda’s is lighting up the night with Radar Brothers, Roomtone, and The Swivel Chairs.

Video – Jukebox The Ghost “Victoria”

Former DC, new Philly band Jukebox the Ghost has just unleashed a new video for one of my favorites, “Victoria”, off of their debut LP Live and Let Ghosts. If you’ve never seen Jukebox the Ghost live, this video gives you an idea of how much fun they like to have. Sure to bring a smile to your face.
