New Here We Go Magic Video – Fangela

here we go magic

Oh boy!  One of my favorite songs off of Here We Go Magic’s S/T album (and just fave songs in general), “Fangela”, has just been made into a video.  Composed by Snejina Latev, who also created the “Tunnelvision” video, has put together a nostalgic spook of a short film.  It’s filled with charcoal animations, small sculptural elements, super-8 footage, stop-motion animation and homemade light effects.  This works to perfection to mimic the mood I feel when I listen to the track.  Take a look/listen:

New Here We Go Magic – “Surprise”

Luke Temple and Here We Go Magic have steam rolled me, and I’m guessing quite a few of you too.  They recently premiered a new song live on WOXY called “Surprise” (thanks to GvB).  This track reminds me of 60s era Dylan and Buffalo Springfield – similar to the track “Everything’s Big” on their debut S/T LP.  Here’s the new one:

Hey and guess what?  They’re playing tonight at the Ottobar here in Baltimore with Titus Andronicus.  Go see ‘em!

The Run Down – March 7, 2009

Tonight in Baltimore is another TAXLO event at the Talking Head with DJs Cullen Stalin, Simon Phoenix, Chris O and a performance by Triobelisk.  Also in town are Longwave who play the Recher Theatre with OK Go and Oppenheimer.  If that doesn’t suit perhaps the Ottobar’s show for tonight will.  They have Hipnotic Buddha, Matt Rocks, E. Joseph and the Phantom Hearts, and Gavin Elder.  Down in DC the Red and the Black has a great show with one of my new favorites performing, Here We Go Magic.  Callers and Typefighter open for them.  Also in DC the Rocka and Roll Hotel has Lydia, Black Gold, and All The Day Holiday while the Black Cat has Kimya Dawson.  Finally if you cross the district to Arlington you can catch Imperial China, Maserati, and Tone at Iota.  Enjoy!

Suggested Listening: Here We Go Magic

Brooklyn singer-songwriter Luke Temple was known for his solid folk and pop outputs…that is until one moment in life propelled him to record some stream of consciousness songs with nothing but analog synths, a cassette 4-track, and his trusty SM-57 mic over a two month period.  The result is Here We Go Magic.  Music that sets off to sea with layers and echoes and waves and clouds and beauty.  So much goodness in there…almost too much…no wait…just enough.  A big thanks to Gorilla Vs. Bear for turning me onto them a ways back.  Here’s some tunes so you know what I’m talking ’bout:

They recently put out a video for “Tunnelvision” on Pitchfork TV.  Check out this hazy memory of a vid:

You can catch Here We Go Magic live at the Red and the Black in DC on March 7th with Callers and in Baltimore at the Ottobar on March 25th with Titus Andronicus.
