New Heartless Bastards – “Searching For The Ghost (Acoustic)”

We posted a review of Heartless Bastards a few weeks ago, and I must say I’m still in love with their new album The Mountain.  They were nice enough recently to make this beautiful acoustic rendition of “Searching For The Ghost” off of their 2006 album All This Time available for free download.  Here ya go:

This version highlights how powerful and beautiful Erika Wennerstrom’s voice really is.  The Mountain is out now via Fat Possum and if you’re heading to SXSW be sure to look out for them playing several events including Paste Magazine’s and NPR’s.

Suggested Listening: Heartless Bastards “The Mountain”

A rigorous wind was blowing as I walked down a trash pile littered with sidewalk.  The moon was rising out of the dark depths of the dank city as a tune began to play as if it was a soundtrack to it’s ascension.  It was ROCK like I remembered as a young lad playing with firecrackers on the street corner.  There was a voice that was gruff and angelic at the same time.  There was something right.  This was Heartless Bastards – a band that seems to have the fire and the hype these days. They are fronted by lead singer Erika Wennerstrom and her Joplin/Benatar voice that makes the girls dream and the boys melt.   This Dayton, Ohio band’s new album The Mountain is everything I could want in a rock album right now.  Simple, energetic, and soulful.  Sometimes we all could use some inspiration, right?  Here ya go…

On a touring note they’re on a lengthy one and roll into Philly on March 28th when they play The Trocadero with Gaslight Anthem.

The Run Down – February 5, 2009

Tonight in Baltimore don’t miss the Roots Cafe Songwriters Series with Caleb Stine, Mac Walter, Geoffrey Himes, and Peter Schmader at El Rancho Grande.  Up in Philly Johnny Brenda’s has a decent show with The Extraordinaires while over at the Electric Factory you can get your indie/blues/rock fill with The Black Keys and Heartless Bastards.  Enjoy!
