Sometimes remixes simply sound like remixes – a dance floor version of a popular track. Other times the remix comes together so well, I find myself liking equal to or better than the original. This happens for me with Denmark’s Trentemoeller and his remix of Franz Ferdinand’s “No You Girls”. The electronics and beats he throws behind the vocals are sinister and wonderful – I’d almost swear this was some sort of original new band if I had not heard the real track previously. Anywho, take an ear to it:
Myspace has premiered Franz Ferdinand’s new album, Tonight: Franz Ferdinand, a few days earlier than it’s physical release. Go over to their myspace page and give it a listen then come back here and let me know what you though of it. I enjoyed it, but I’m a fan of theirs. It definitely has some dance floor rhythm to it and comes across with a lot of energy (aside from the last two mellower tracks). My question is, does it wow you? And is it better than these?
I’ve got a good feeling about Franz Ferdinand’s new album Tonight: Franz Ferdinand. The songs I’ve heard so far sound intense, gritty, and street ready. The video for the lead single, “Ulysses”, definitely has that feel as well. Check it:
There’s been a video of those Franz Ferdinand boys performing a track, “Ulysses”, from their upcoming album. It’s in the studio and it kicks ass. Enjoy!
As a bonus here’s a new remix of the track:

Franz Ferdinand have sort of released their first single from the long awaited Tonight : Franz Ferdinand. JP’s Blog did everyone a favor by piecing together the remix stems from their remix contest for “Ulysses”. Check the contest here and sample the track below:

Drowned In Sound recently interviewed the band here and they discuss the overall theme of the album being the nightlife as well as a good description of the recording process for it. This “Ulysses” track definitely has that dance floor feel to it. I think I’ll go out on a limb and say that I pretty sure this album is going to be sweet.
Well well well. Good ole Franz Ferdinand are back with a new (non single) track, Lucid Dreams, off of their upcoming third album (and apparently being featured on Madden ‘09). You can stream it for free over at their website when you give them your email address, which I went ahead and did, but of course there was an error message claiming I wasn’t connected to the internet (stupid technology). It seems anytime a band puts up a free track or something on their site, Laurent here always has a “malfunction” (don’t think I’ve forgotten Coldplay…sending me the free download link 5 days after I signed up for it…boooooo). Oh well. Lucky for me (or possibly you) Popscene was kind enough to post the mp3. Was it worth all the trouble? I guess. It’s okay. Definitely not terrible. Definitely not phenomenal. Just pretty decent for a casual Tuesday afternoon. What do you think?
We hope you enjoy our new site. Hopefully it will allow us to bring this wonderful music to your eyes and ears in a more visually pleasing way. Please let us know what you think. Thanks a bunch for the support so far.
