If you missed out on Ed Harcourt’s Russian Roulette EP I strongly suggest you pick it up. He’s just put out a video for the track “Black Feathers” off of it. For some reason I’ve always found some sort of parallel between Harcourt and Tom Waits even though they sound nothing like each other. Perhaps it’s the rogue gypsy feel that each one emits. I dunno, but this video furthers that notion with Harcourt dressed and painted like a voodoo priest gettin’ it done in the woods by a raging bonfire.

UK singer/song-writer Ed Harcourt has just released a 6 track EP Russian Roulette via Dovecote. It was recorded quickly over a few days with David Lynch and is meant to serve as an audio bridge between 2006’s Beautiful Lie and a new LP due out next year. If you’ve never listened to Harcourt before, this EP represents a good example of what he generally brings to the table. Each song has it’s own personality and each song is made deeply personal by the dramatic delivery of Harcourt himself. The piano usually plays an important role in his work, but he also utilizes a wide array of instruments and sounds to get his stories across. My favorite of this EP happens to be the dubbed out ragtime jam “Sour Milk, Motheaten Silk”.
