It’s taken me a while amidst all the days of great rock and electronic pop music to actually take in the new DOOM album…which is a sham really because I had been anticipating Born Like This for longest time. DOOM doesn’t disappoint either (I don’t think he ever does). It’s an album that is loose and fun and ALL ABOUT RHYMES. That’s what you get when you listen to him – rhymes, a beat, and the end. No chorus, just laser lines like my new favorite “Get ‘em like Jake The Snake on mescalin” from “Gazillion Ear” or perhaps the usage of one of my favorite terms “Bee’s Knees” on “That’s That”. These rhymes are spouted in his classic stream of consciousness flow that only stops when the beat does. Sure there’s no mold shattering revelations on the LP, but I wasn’t looking for them. Now we just have to wait for the long rumored Ghostface/DOOM collaboration…or how about Madvillainy 2?

The music world has recognized how great an artist Mr. Thom Yorke is, but there are certain instances where he (or his band Radiohead) will go out on a limb and do something special….like now. Yorke has remixed one of my favorite MCs MF DOOM or simply DOOM as he is now called. The track is called “Gazzillion Ears” and the remix has Yorke’s style written all over it. It’s also a longer song with a lengthier verse in it as opposed to many of the new DOOM tracks I’ve heard so far. All in all it’s a winner. Take a listen:

Mr. Kanye West recently leaked two tracks from the new DOOM (formerly MF DOOM) album Born Like This. The first track “Rap Ambush” is much like the other leaked tracks I’ve heard so far – short, non stop rhymes, muted beat – classic DOOM. “Yessir!” is a tad different since it’s basically a Raekwon track, but in the style of DOOM. Take a listen:

In other DOOM news, Stones Throw recently put out a free mp3 of the collaboration between DOOM and Ghostface called “Chinatown Wars”. There was rumored to be a full album with these two in the works….what ever happened to that?

I’m pumped for the upcoming DOOM (formerly MF DOOM) album due out on March 24th and entitled Born Like This. Well apparently mister Thom Yorke is slated to remix the track “Gazzillion Ear” and will be featured as an Itunes bonus track. So what does this mean? It means I’ve circled March 24th in bright red magic marker on my calendar and I suggest you do the same. Here’s some tracks to help you fantasize what this remix might actually sound like.

Lex is putting out DOOM’s (formerly MF DOOM – why the change?) new album Born Like This on March 24th and after hearing “Ballskin” and this new one, “That’s That” I think it’s safe to say it’s going to be pretty phenomenal. And I also think it’s going to have a major focus on straight up rhymin’ (you know – what hip hop is really about). No hooks. Just rhymes. DOOM kills it on “That’s That” and I’m pretty sure the rest of the album will follow suit especially since there are confirmed appearances of Ghostface, Raekwon, and some J Dilla Beats.
