MSNBC’s Brian Williams has launched a new weekly music spotlight online entitled “Britunes”. Despite that cheezy name and the obvious selling of the Itunes brand, the inaugural show highlights the band Deer Tick who we are quite fond of around here. If you have a few minutes check it out here.

Partisan Records is set to release Deer Tick’s highly anticipated follow up album to the amazing 2007 War Elephant on June 23rd. It’s called Born On Flag Day and the album art is above. They’ve also slipped out the first track on the album “Easy” – a rough and jangly crunch of a song that really got me right away. Enjoy that now and check the tracklist and some current tour dates after the jump.

Hello all! It’s the first day of March – the greatest month ever! Why? Because it’s my Bday month of course! And there are a ton of good shows to help celebrate this wonderful month. Here in Baltimore tap into some classic hip hop at the Ottobar with Black Sheep, For The People, Jade Fox, Fresh Competition, and DJ Mills. Down in DC Deer Tick rolls into the 9:30 Club with Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit while Michael Zapruder is performing at The Red and the Black with Tim Williams. Also in DC are Plants and Animals and Olivia and the Housemates who play DC9. Up north in Philly the fantastic Blitzen Trapper play the First Unitarian Church. Enjoy!

So the weekend is finally almost upon us and the concert gods have given us a lot to be thankful for. Tonight in Baltimore the Talking Head has the Expontentials, The Izzy’s, and The Jagged Hearts while the trip hoppers Thievery Corporation play Rams Head Live. Down in DC the Rock and Roll Hotel has a good one with Tapes ‘n Tapes, Wild Light, and The Subjects. Also in DC are the Howlies, Tiger and the Snow, and Excuses (ex Len Bias) who play the Velvet Lounge and the funk master himself George Clinton who plays the 9:30 Club. Philly has some sweet ones as well with Deer Tick and Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit at World Cafe Live and Ben Kweller and The Watson Twins at the Fillmore at the TLA. Enjoy!

It was sure nice of Deer Tick to wrap up and serve out the belated holiday gift of a sweet cover of Paul Simon’s “Still Crazy After All These Years”. This is one of my top Paul Simon songs and John J. McCauley and company do it well. Don’t miss Deer Tick when they play here in Baltimore at the Talking Head on February 21st.
