One of the summer’s funnest (not a word but it works for this lone instant) albums, Datarock’s Red, has a new video for the track “The Pretender”. The video is a response to the film “They Live” by John Carpenter. In Datarock’s version the clarity sunglasses reveal a hidden Datarock world beneath everyday items at a food store. Check it:
The video was directed by Parralax. Read my review of Redhere.
Norway is about to be back on the music scene with the release (digital) on June 9th of Datarock’s Red. From the first notes of this album I started DANCING RIGHT AWAY. This is what all dance rock bands try to be, but so many fail miserably at doing. Somehow Datarock blends the sounds of Talking Heads and Devo, smashes them to a gooey pulp then uses that as fuel for their grungy world dominating robot that teaches all how to do the shuffle and the moonwalk on the way to bliss. Yeah. Just like that. This album is FUN (it has to be all caps). This album is ADDICTIVE. Summertime never sounded so good.
Props to IGIF for turning me on to this fab rework of Datarock’s “Give It Up” by Weird Tapes. I’m completely in love with Weird Tapes’ cosmic tape looped synth dream overlay music they put up for free on their website, so it’s nice to hear their remakes of other songs – they kill it with this track of Datarock’s. Here’s to hoping they do more.
