Friday (I’m A Remix)

Wow.  I was so caught up in all the holiday doings that I almost forgot to keep on with this little Friday tradition.  So how did everyone’s holiday turn out?  Excited about returning to school/work?  Wait I already know the answer to that one.  Here’s some fine remixes to hopefully ease the pain in your transition back to the grind.

The Run Down – Saturday November 1, 2008

While everyone might be slowly coming down from their sugar highs of last night, don’t let that stop you from checking out some superb local shows.  Here in Baltimore Sonar has Lyrics Born and Soul Cannon while Rams Head Live has Matisyahu and Flobots.  Down in DC the Rock and Roll Hotel has Murs and Kidz In The hall while the Black Cat has Bishop Allen, Dink Up Buttercup, and Electric Owls.  Right over the bridge in Arlington Iota blasts off with Deleted Scenes, Feral Kids, and Totally Snake.  Up north in Philly insanely popular and sometimes annoying Colplay take on the Wachovia Spectrum with Duffy while O’Death, Hoots & Hellmouth, and the Extraordinaires play Johnny Brenda’s.

mp3: Feral Kids – Never Told A Soul

mp3: Murs – The Pain

The Run Down – Friday October 31, 2008

While you might be in the middle of putting the perfect costume together, I thought I’d just spill a little knowledge on some of the shows tonight.  Down in DC the uber-band Coldplay rolls into the Verizon Center with Duffy while on a much smaller stage at Iota Junior League and The Resurrectionists play.  Up in Philly the place to be is the Starlight Ballroom with Man Man, Tim Fite, and Pit Er Pat.  No wait the place to be is the Electric Factory with Of Montreal and Gang Gang Dance.  Aw shucks, I’m mistaken again.  The place to be is the North Star Bar with Murs and Kidz In The Hall.  I guess it’s really up to you where you should be.

A Simple Thank You

Well one year ago today we put up our first post here on Pasta Primavera, and I thought I should write a little somethin’ somethin’ to reflect back on our first year in the blogosphere.  Years ago I wanted to start a music blog, but I was working a certain crappy job that paid the bills, but didn’t leave much time for anything else.  So I was content on reading blogs like Gorilla Vs. Bear, I Guess I’m Floating, 3hive, Sixeyes, and So Much Silence for my music fix.  A little over 13 months ago I was fortunately able to ditch that job for a new one that let my mind (and time) ease up a bit, and that’s when I thought up the idea for the blog Pasta Primavera (the name has it’s origin from the Beastie Boys lyric ‘I’m all mixed up like pasta primavera‘ from What Comes Around off of Paul’s Boutique).  JB, Simon (evilhomer), and I joined forces just to share our thoughts on music with each other.  We really didn’t think anyone would find us and actually read what we were writing.  A few months into it we realized that people were actually reading so we started to take things a bit more seriously (well not that serious, but serious enough to say we’re serious).  We also began to take notice of the enormous and awesome music scene from the Baltimore/DC/Philly section of the east coast and made a goal to support it to the best of our abilities.  After that things were just a blast.  Tons of great music constantly passes through our ears and we try our best to pass it on to you.  Finally I just want to say thanks…to everyone who has spent more than a second perusing our site in search of that musical note to brighten your day.  Without you we’d just be some blog somewhere doing something.  With you, we’re Pasta Primavera.  Here’s to reminiscing….

The Run Down – Wednesday July 2, 2008

A day with multiple shows!!  Tonight in DC there’s the big Verizon Center show with Coldplay.  Or if you want to scale it down, I suggest the Red and the Black.  They’ve got Hammer No More The Fingers, Seamonsters, and Johnny Action Figure playing tonight.  Also if you’re in Philly, don’t forget that it’s Wednesday and Rickie Lee Jones is continuing her residency at The Painted Bride Art Center.

The Run Down – Sunday June 29, 2008

Tonight in DC is a fabulous show at the Red and the Black with Austin’s Belaire, or if you’re going for a more mainstream flavor, then why not go big at the Wachovia Spectrum in Philly with Coldplay.  That’s it?  photo by Wylie Maercklein
