New Chairlift Video – Bruises

chairlift

It’s great to finally separate Chairlift’s “Bruises” with the bright dripping colors of the Ipod Nano commercial.  Now we have a much darker tone to going along with bubbling melodies of one of the stand out tracks on Does You Inspire You.  This one finds the band in a dark screen filled room conducting what should be surveillance but ends up being an orgy – go figure?

Remix: Sinden takes on Chairlift’s Evident Utensil

Wow!  I am really in love with this remix London’s Sinden has done for Chairlift’s “Evident Utensil”.  Intense latin like dance rhythm’s and vibrant synths completely transform this medium level head nodder of song into a frenzied jump up and down affair.  Check it:

Here’s an older Sinden treat as well:

Also don’t forget that Chairlift will be performing at Metro Gallery’s Rufustival along with Wye Oak, Dirty Projectors, and more this Saturday!

Remix: Chairlift takes on Telepathe’s “So Fine”

“So Fine” is one of my fave tracks off of Telepathe’s Dance Mother so I was wary  of whether or not even the great electro pop sounds of Chairlift could do it justice with a remix.  The result is interesting but…well it’s kind of sparse and slow which is…interesting…maybe I’m just in a more up tempo mood today…yeah let’s say that…save this one for that time you want to space out a little…

The Run Down – Thursday December 4, 2008

Tonight in Baltimore there’s a super sweet show happening over at the Talking Head with Caleb Stine, Small Sur, Stephen Strohmeier, and Andy Abelow.  Down in DC the Black Cat is featuring Baltimore’s Wye Oak and O’Death.  Philly seems to be the hot spot with Yeasayer and Chairlift at the First Unitarian Church, Darker My Love, Strange Boys, and Asteroid #4 at Johnny Brenda’s, Nada Surf and The Jealous Girlfriends at the Trocadero, and Modern Skirts and The Old Ceremony at the M Room.  Good night!

The Run Down – Wednesday December 3, 2008

Wow there’s some sweet shows in DC tonight!  First up the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue has Yeasayer and Chairlift.  That’s pretty good right?  Well maybe Dr. Dog at the 9:30 Club would be swell as well.  If you aren’t in the District maybe head north to Philly to catch the renaissance with Q-Tip and The Cool Kids at the Trocadero.

Chairlift

Imagine if The Knife moved to the US, indulged in a serious bout of the Thompson Twins, then went out at night and forgot their shadows (huh?).  The result might just be Brooklyn’s Chairlift (yeah, you know, the one on the ipod nano commercial).  Caroline Polachek, Aaron Pfenning, and Patrick Wimberly all met up in 2006 in Boulder, Colorado with the common goal of making music for haunted houses.  Chairlift’s sound went through several changes and they ended up in Brooklyn in 2007 playing many shows alongside like-minded bands such as MGMT, Yeasayer, and Mixel Pixel.  On the outside, Chairlift’s music is synth-pop, but on the inside they escape that moniker and delve into social/personal commentary utilizing their unbelievable knack to create the perfect sound for each mood they want – whether it be playful pop, dirty funk, or slow misty river ballads.  Some might be disappointed that Does You Inspire You (their new album) doesn’t continue the Bruises (ipod song) sound all the way through, but I am not one of them.  You can currently find Chairlift on tour with Yeasayer (dates after the jump).
