Cassettes Won’t Listen brings the title track of their highly addictive instrumental album Into The Hillside to life with a brand new video. It’s wild with deteriorating digital images morphing into another…and bees.
At the beginning of the month Cassettes Won’t Listen, who has just released a new album Into The Hillside (see our review here), teamed up with Wired.com to release the (F)remix EP. This EP is full of CWL remixes that again show why he’s one of my favorite artists of today. The EP offers new takes on bands like The Death Set, Mr. Lif, The Dears, The Faunts, Christine, and more. Download the full thing for free at Wired.com. Here’s a few of my faves off it:
It must be a daunting task to make an album full of instrumental electronic music. Most of the time club electronics can hold my attention for a few songs or so, but then I tend to drift away. When I found out about Cassettes Won’t Listen’s new instrumental album Into The Hillside, I hoped this was the one to hook me and not let go (like so many others)…and for the most part, I’m happy to say, it does. On Into The Hillside, CWL churns out a variety of speeds, beats, and genres to suit all my moods. There’s the high energy synth monster “A Lovely Drive To You”, the Dre-like funk of “The Sidewalk Cruise”, and the sparkling stars and whomping black sky bass of “1985″ – all sweet jams that inspire me to move. And that’s just a slice, the rest of the album is just as lively. Because of this Into The Hillside has made the dramatic leap from my work day soundtrack in the office to the car stereo where it currently serves as the soundtrack to my windows-down drive through town.
It’s great when a superb remix introduces a new band to me. This is the case fro Cassettes Won’t Listen and the remix they did of Vancouver’s Christine. Christine are a solid electronic pop band that I’m going to follow up on for sure. CWL’s remix of the track “Cool Your Shoes” pumps the intensity level of the original up about 10 levels. It’s a good pick me to start the weekend.
