Before I start this thing off let me just say that I hate making lists. I’m more of a pile person. So you won’t see any numbers in the list of albums, rather my top five followed by my other favorites. So here it goes.
Nada Surf has been a favorite band of mine since their first album (that was a ways back). It’s amazing how much their sound has matured since then, and Lucky truly shows that they’re on top of their game. It’s indie pop rock at it’s best. And they’re killer live!

For a while there Department Of Eagles’ In Ear Park was all I was listening to. Daniel Rossen and friends put together a gem of an album that took elements of Grizzly Bear and mashed them up with some McCartney-like pop.

The Walkmen’s You & Me took them from a band that I casually enjoyed from time to time, to a full on wonder that I try to set aside time to listen to when ever I can. The Walkmen have always had an interesting sound that travels from a dark alleyway to an extravagant cathedral, but You & Me magnifies it even more and leaves me in awe. It’s powerful.

It’s rare that an album or person lives up to the hype. Lykke Li and her album Youth Novels does just that. I fell in love with her sound quickly then pushed over the edge with her amazing energy that she puts into her live performances. Despite the insane amount of remixes and radio plays, Youth Novels still hasn’t grown old to me and that’s also rare.

I can’t quite explain why I took to Glasvegas’ debut S/T album his year. Perhaps it was the Beach Boys/Earth Angel/Smiths halo surrounding their black and white sound that enamored me. It might not have a struck others the same way, but for me this album made an lasting impression.

Cadence Weapon has just released his video for the track “Real Estate” off of one of my favorites this year, Afterparty Babies. The vid has CW in Realtor garb rapping his way through a tv advertisement. Nothing special, but the song kicks ass.

Radiohead just put out their video for the song Reckoner off of In Rainbows. Take a look:

Pretty amazing stuff huh? As expected though – Radiohead’s videos always seem to be visually stunning. It was created by Clement Picon who was one of the winners of the Aniboom Animation Contest For Radiohead’s In Rainbows. Be sure to check out the other winning videos here.
In other news, Cadence Weapon entered the arena for remixing Reckoner. If you like Cadence Weapon’s remix style, then you should eat this one up. Change of pace rhythms and electronics give Reckoner a new flavor indeed. Thanks to GvB for turning us on to it. Vote for this remix over at the Reckoner Remix Site.

Well one year ago today we put up our first post here on Pasta Primavera, and I thought I should write a little somethin’ somethin’ to reflect back on our first year in the blogosphere. Years ago I wanted to start a music blog, but I was working a certain crappy job that paid the bills, but didn’t leave much time for anything else. So I was content on reading blogs like Gorilla Vs. Bear, I Guess I’m Floating, 3hive, Sixeyes, and So Much Silence for my music fix. A little over 13 months ago I was fortunately able to ditch that job for a new one that let my mind (and time) ease up a bit, and that’s when I thought up the idea for the blog Pasta Primavera (the name has it’s origin from the Beastie Boys lyric ‘I’m all mixed up like pasta primavera‘ from What Comes Around off of Paul’s Boutique). JB, Simon (evilhomer), and I joined forces just to share our thoughts on music with each other. We really didn’t think anyone would find us and actually read what we were writing. A few months into it we realized that people were actually reading so we started to take things a bit more seriously (well not that serious, but serious enough to say we’re serious). We also began to take notice of the enormous and awesome music scene from the Baltimore/DC/Philly section of the east coast and made a goal to support it to the best of our abilities. After that things were just a blast. Tons of great music constantly passes through our ears and we try our best to pass it on to you. Finally I just want to say thanks…to everyone who has spent more than a second perusing our site in search of that musical note to brighten your day. Without you we’d just be some blog somewhere doing something. With you, we’re Pasta Primavera. Here’s to reminiscing….
