This week has been an interesting one hasn’t it? You’ve got the chimp attacking people then getting shot then inspiring a controversial comic strip for the New York Post criticizing Obama and the stimulus plan. The Oceanic 6 are now back on the island…finally…and finally there’s an episode that had only one flash of light in it…they were getting a little excessive with that. Tonight is also the last night for Conan O’Brien in the Big Apple. I’m hoping it all works out for him on the west coast. If you’re a sports fan the Orioles spring training is now in full swing… umm… whoopee? Hard to get excited about that when we haven’t had a winning season since Quantum Leap was all the rage… but if you focus on the O’s perhaps it will take your mind off of the beating the Maryland Men’s Basketball team just took at Clemson…yikes. I digress. Here’s to hoping the weekend brings some cheer to all you folks. Since I can’t serve alcohol on this blog here’s some remixes on the rocks.

It’s quite amazing that a few moments ago it seemed no one had heard of the folktastic songs of Bon Iver but now low and behold Justin Vernon and Co. have hit the mark and the world is eating them up. Bon Iver has a new EP, Blood Bank, set to be released in January and I’m sure people are hungry for it. For Emma, Forever Ago is one of those albums I always enjoy going back to and now it seems I can add Blood Bank to the mix as well. Though the experiments with the vocoder weren’t my cup of tea (but hey one bad song ain’t to bad…at least it’s not a full album of it right?) the rest of the EP is top notch. Enjoy the title track then go dig up your copy of For Emma and have a blissful day.
The start of the week is relatively slow for shows but there’s one tonight that’s definitely worth pointing out if you live in the Philadelphia area. Bon Iver and Tallest Man On Earth (not literally, just the band) play the Trocadero. Should be a good one so get going!

Tomorrow there’s also a show that shouldn’t be omitted from this run down. Baltimore finally gets the make up show from the previously cancelled Ra Ra Riot date at the Ottobar. This time ’round they’re playing with Princeton and So Many Dynamos. That’s an awesome show if I do say myself.
Say what? That’s right! Wisconsin’s Bon Iver aka Justin Vernon is back on the road again. Catch ‘em if you can! (and lookee here…there’s a stop at the Trocadero!)
12/10 New York, NY – Town Hall
12/11 New York, NY – Town Hall
12/14 Boston, MA – Wilbur Theatre
12/15 Philadelphia, PA – Trocadero
12/18 Chicago, IL – The Vic
12/19 Madison, WI – Barrymore Theatre
Folks it doesn’t get much better than Lykke Li and Bon Iver doing an acoustic performance of Dance, Dance, Dance by some fountain in L.A.. Witness the magic for yourself:

Tonight in Baltimore the Sidebar has Pete Yorko & The One Man Band along with the Lexington Arrows, Geisha Lightning, Buzz Deluxe, and The International Jet Set. In DC, the Black Cat has the wonderful Bon Iver and Bowerbirds while the Rock and Roll Hotel has Meredith Bragg, Justin Jones & the Driving Rain, Andy Zipf, and Olivia & The Housemates. Finally in Philly, Johnny Brenda’s has Earlimart, Sunshine Recorder, and JJL while the Millcreek Tavern has The Spinning Leaves, Basementband, Gleason’s Drift, and the Great Unknown. Last November we mentioned here how we were completely hooked on Bowerbirds’ Hymns For A Dark Horse. Well that release didn’t get to as many places as they would have liked, so on June 17th, they’re re-releasing it on Dead Oceans. For those fans that already own it, you might want to grab this for two new bonus tracks, or maybe you’d want it on vinyl (which wasn’t available before). In case you’ve forgotten that Bowerbirds goodness, here’s a taste:

Oh and you know what…they’re about to embark on a super great tour with Bon Iver (In DC on August 1st at the Black Cat)!!! Check the dates after the jump…
