Air…I generally like them. But some of their music is fairly hit or miss with me. Take the track “Sing Sang Sung”. Nothing going on there for me. It’s light, airy, fluffy…and frankly boring. That’s where Black Moth Super Rainbow step with their rough and spectacular remix of that particular track. BMSR give this flimsy lil track some much needed weight and texture. AWESOME.
John! Nope – he couldn’t do it so in his place Patrick Knight you’re the winner! Enjoy the show!
That’s right!!! We’ve got a pair of guest list passes for the upcoming Black Moth Super Rainbow show at the Ottobar here in Baltimore on Monday. To enter simply leave a comment on this post, email us at info@pastaprima.net, or direct message us via twitter at here (make sure to leave your first and last name). The winner will be chosen on Sunday so keep an eye on your email. To help you get even more pumped check out their new video for “Born On A Day The Sun Didn’t Rise” from their new album Eating Us:
The Go! Team put a smile upon my face no matter what they are doing. They’ve just put out a new remix of the uber-psychedelic “Twin Of Myself” by Black Moth Super Rainbow. Basically it sounds like all the Go! Team boys and girls joined the Black Moth Super Rainbow bunch and had a crazy tripped out Saturday morning cartoon romp on a sunny hillside somewhere. Check it:
We’ve come to expect crazy tripped out visuals with Black Moth Super Rainbow, but they went all out with their new video for “Dark Bubbles” off their new album Eating Us (5/26). For an amazing interactive BMSR experience just head here and you will understand.
On May 26th the now 6 piece Black Moth Super Rainbow will release the follow up to 2007 Dandelion Gum. This new album out on Graveface is entitled Eating Us and has the band doing things it’s never done before. That is drifting into the realm of hi-fi recording. Eating Us was recorded at Tarbox Road Studios (their first venture into a real recording studio) while being produced by David Fridmann (Flaming Lips, MGMT). What effect did this have on the album? It’s a more developed sound. Eating Us presents a richer blend of a similar style we all fell in love with on Dandelion Gum. And when I say richer, I mean trippier. Black Moth Super Rainbow have that swirly psych rock twisted vocal trancey “ooh the colors” sound down and don’t stray too far from their comfort zone on Eating Us. And I never wanted them to. Though this album doe have lighter more melancholy moments that I had yet to hear them produce. These feathery moments gives the album real body and life. Instead of one stream of consciousness candy rainbow, there’s a dip or two to let you contemplate, relax, and digest what you just heard a bit. So if you’ve got a sunny Sunday afternoon with nothing to do, drop this album on some sugar cubes and have a nice day.
It’s about that time again where I find myself longing for some tripped out psychedelic grooves to make these bland winter days a tad brighter. I’m in luck because Black Moth Super Rainbow are back with a new medley of a track off of the upcoming album (May 26th) Eating Us. Sounds really good. I’m not surprised. I’m just getting off the high from, BMSR band member, Tobacco’s Fucked Up Friends released last year. Here’s the new release:
In DC tonight you might not want to miss the one and only KRS-One at the Black Cat with Kokayi. He never puts on a bad show. If you are missing it, maybe you’re heading out to the Rock and Roll Hotel to catch Black Moth Super Rainbow, Subtle, Efterklang, and Slaraffenland. Or maybe, just maybe, you’re lucky enough to get up to Philly and witness the Jam On The River at Penn’s Landing which features The Flaming Lips, RJD2, and Josh Ritter.
mp3: KRS-One – Sound Of Da Police
mp3: Black Moth Super Rainbow – Rollerdisco
mp3: Efterklang – Mirador
mp3: Slarafffenland – Polaroids
mp3: The Flaming Lips – Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots Pt. 1
There are two phenomenal shows in the surrounding areas tonight. In DC the Black Cat has Islands, Magic, and Street Carnage. In Philly, Johnny Brenda’s has Black Moth Super Rainbow, Ghastly City Sleep and Subtle. Here in Baltimore, don’t miss a quality lesson with the teacher himself, KRS-One at Sonar. Enjoy!
