New Beastie Boys – Too Many Rappers Featuring Nas

beastie boys

With all the hoopla/sadness of the recent announcement of Adam Yauch having throat cancer and the canceling of their tour dates and the pushing back of their upcoming album, I completely overlooked the recent leak of that fabulous new track featuring another hip hop legend, Nas.  I really can’t say too much about this track except that it’s the Beasties and Nas killing it like they so often do.

The Hot Sauce Committee was slated for a September 15th release, but with the recent news I’m unsure of the new release date.

REMIX BATTLE

turntable

It seems every week or so I get a flurry of remixes in the ole inbox that I never seem to have time to devote a solo post to.  So then I thought up this little but – a remix BATTLE.  You, the reader, get to decide which one takes the throne as Pasta Primavera’s Remix Battle Champion.  That remix will eventually be pitted against another wave of worthy competitors next time round.  So get your ears ready and judge away:

mp3: Tears For Fears – Shout (I’m David Elijah Rose Remix)

mp3: Digable Planets – Rebirth of Slick (iamxl remix)

mp3: Patrick Wolf – Who Will (BuffetLibre DJs Remix)

mp3: Beastie Boys – B-Boys In The Cut (Innerpartysystem Remix)

mp3: Arcade Fire – Black Mirror (dau-al-7 edit)

Leave your vote in the comments!

The Run Down – January 19, 2009

As we all celebrate MLK’s B-day and get prepared for the big day tomorrow, DC seems to be pulling out all the stops tonight.  First there’s an inaugural show at the 9:30 Club with the infamous Beastie Boys, Citizen Cope, Sheryl Crow, and Justin Jones.  Over at the Warner Theatre the legendary Jay-Z  kicks the night into gear.  The Rock and Roll Hotel has Frightened Rabbit, Arc In Round, and David Karsten Daniels.  The big show is at the Sold Out Black Cat Inaugural Ball featuring Andrew Bird, Ted Leo, Tortoise, Waco Brothers, Eleventh Dream Day, Jon Langford, Sally Timms, David “Honeyboy” Edwards, Ken Vandermark, Freakwater, Icy Demons, Judson Claiborne, and Thomas Frank.  Wow!  Also if you can’t make it to DC don’t forget that in Baltimore Hezekiah Jones, Baltimore String Felons, and Chris Kasper play Joe Squared, while in Philly Teed, Definite Awesome, and You, Me and T-Rex play the Khyber.  Enjoy!

A Simple Thank You

Well one year ago today we put up our first post here on Pasta Primavera, and I thought I should write a little somethin’ somethin’ to reflect back on our first year in the blogosphere.  Years ago I wanted to start a music blog, but I was working a certain crappy job that paid the bills, but didn’t leave much time for anything else.  So I was content on reading blogs like Gorilla Vs. Bear, I Guess I’m Floating, 3hive, Sixeyes, and So Much Silence for my music fix.  A little over 13 months ago I was fortunately able to ditch that job for a new one that let my mind (and time) ease up a bit, and that’s when I thought up the idea for the blog Pasta Primavera (the name has it’s origin from the Beastie Boys lyric ‘I’m all mixed up like pasta primavera‘ from What Comes Around off of Paul’s Boutique).  JB, Simon (evilhomer), and I joined forces just to share our thoughts on music with each other.  We really didn’t think anyone would find us and actually read what we were writing.  A few months into it we realized that people were actually reading so we started to take things a bit more seriously (well not that serious, but serious enough to say we’re serious).  We also began to take notice of the enormous and awesome music scene from the Baltimore/DC/Philly section of the east coast and made a goal to support it to the best of our abilities.  After that things were just a blast.  Tons of great music constantly passes through our ears and we try our best to pass it on to you.  Finally I just want to say thanks…to everyone who has spent more than a second perusing our site in search of that musical note to brighten your day.  Without you we’d just be some blog somewhere doing something.  With you, we’re Pasta Primavera.  Here’s to reminiscing….

So this is it…

So music is good, right? I mean really good, right? I’m glad you think so ’cause that’s what this ‘lil blog is about. Every couple of days there’ll be something new to audiophonically(not a word) peruse. Today’s bite relates to my food themed title.

Beastie Boys – What Comes Around

Somehow the Beasties are still making good music. It’s amazing to me how anyone can throw a line like “I’m all mixed up like pasta primavera” into a rap and have it still be amazing. In fact I look forward to those cheesy lines on every single Beastie Boys album. Hope this song puts a smile on your mug.
