Feral Kids Bring It All Back

I have fond memories of being a kid, sweating out humid summers in Baltimore, stuck to the vinyl seats in the back of my dad’s beat up Chevette while listening to his favorite tape of Bruce Springsteen’s Thunder Road on side A and The Beatle’s Abbey Road on side B.  Jump to another memory of us enjoying dinner while listening to the record player spin the Talking Heads or Elvis Costello.  That music was so enjoyable…so singable… it made you forget that it was hot enough outside to melt plastic.

The other day I stumbled upon Feral Kids, a DC 5 piece, and I felt those memories coming back.  Feral Kids have an EP out (free for download on their myspace) with a full length in the works and (hopefully) slated for a release next year.  They also don’t mess around.  Feral Kids play well written pop music that you will sing along with whether you know the lyrics or not (who hasn’t half sang, half mumbled a song).  After the quick four songs are finished playing on their EP, you’ll probably play it again (and perhaps again after that).  They’re infectiously sweet like Imperial Teen, but a little more diverse with their overall sound.  Occasionally they play a show (they’re actually all professional musicians with hectic gigging and teaching schedules), so keep an eye on their myspace.  You don’t want to miss out on this promising band.
