Wake Up To Wintersleep

Wintersleep are a five piece band from Nova Scotia that I’ve recently had the pleasure of finding.  Last year they released their third album, Welcome To The Night Sky, and they’ve recently won the Juno Award for New Group Of The Year.  Another interesting fact is that many members of Wintersleep collaborate in other bands, most notably Mike Bigelow (bass) who plays with Holy Fuck and the Holy Shroud.  Those are the facts.  Now onto the music.  Wintersleep have that post rock vibe, but sometimes…not really.  They also have that large ‘wall of sound’ sound too, but…no, not always.  There’s the ink outlines of bands like The Dismemberment Plan, Interpol, but then there’s shades of of Sufjan Stevens and David Byrne filling those outlines in.  I guess you could say Wintersleep are one big melting pot of indie music, boiling over with savory goodness, yet still remain pure to themselves as performers.  Why not give them a taste the next time you’re down for that late night, early morning snack.  Check some fall tour dates and a video after the jump.  Photo by Scott Munn
