You might recognize the name Danny Seim if you’re a fan of Menomena (as I am). He plays the drums for that wonderful outfit. Well it turns out that Menomena was just a side project of Seim that kind of took off. His true passions lie within Lackthereof. Seim has been writing music under the moniker of Lackthereof since 1997 and has released 9 albums, most coming in the form of homemade CD-Rs freely distributed to friends or anyone who was interested. Luckily for us Barsuk has released his latest lo-fi (not really) adventure, Your Anchor. This current world created by Seim has the shadows of Menomena, but the boxcar strum of early folk Beck. Your Anchor lathers you up with moderately paced over dubbed rhythms and vocals that almost reach that famous wall of sound before stumbling back to earth with a pleasant pop song in hand. As a perfect coda, Danny Seim treats everyone to an off beat cover of the National’s Fake Empire. Simply….yeah.
