Ed Harcourt’s ‘The Beautiful Lie’ Tells The Truth

Ed Harcourt has had a few albums under his belt now, but hasn’t really got me yet.  Until now.  On June 3rd Harcourt released The Beautiful Lie, his fifth album in six years, on Dovecote Records.  This album feels like he took a layer of himself off and lay it down on the album as it was pressed into wax.  Partly recorded on an eight track in his grandmother’s house in Sussex (using a piano made for her in 1917) and East London’s Toe Rag Studios (where the White Stripes recorded Elephant), The Beautiful Lie has Harcourt spilling stories like Folds, talking politics like Dylan, and serenading you in a whiskey soaked alleyway like Waits.  It’s definitely a pleasure when an artist unlocks himself for the world to witness.  Thank you Mr. Harcourt.
