So That’s She & Him

Well apparently She & Him are fairly popular, but I’m just starting to get into them.  She & Him began in 2006 when M. Ward recorded a duet with Zooey Deschanel.  Intoxicated by the experience, they both looked forward to collaborating in the future.  Over that winter Deschanel recorded song after song, note after note, compiling dozens of demos destined for a home.  She then shipped them off to M. Ward.  That was the fuel needed to start the fire of She & Him.  M. Ward has always been known for his one man genius production, but this duo’s Volume One (Merge) takes it to the clouds.  Pure is the only word I can find for it.  No fancy effects.  Just Deschanel’s gorgeous melodies and Ward’s surrounding atmospheres.  They’ve gained much acclaim for this record and it’s well deserved.  If you have a place to sit with a cold glass of iced tea, a breeze coming off the river, and a porch to lounge on, then this is the soundtrack for you.  There have been some rumblings about a sub par live show, but I can’t give you answer on that.  Find out for yourself on August 10th at the Virgin Festival here Baltimore.
